The Writing
Room is a free-of-charge tutoring
service and computer
lab available to all currently
enrolled Blinn College students.
!The
Writing Room can
provide you
with:
-
help with any
writing assignment from any class at any stage of the writing
process;
-
general guidance
on how to approach different types of writing assignments;
-
general guidance
on a piece of writing's thesis statement, organization, content, and development;
-
general guidance
on how to conduct library research;
-
answers to
specific questions about grammar and punctuation;
-
answers to
specific questions about internal documentation and works cited pages;
-
answers to
specific questions about MLA format;
-
guidance on
how to use reference books on writing, including the Little, Brown Handbook;
-
one-on-one
sessions with a writing tutor;
-
individual
time at an IBM-compatible computer (on a walk-in basis); and
-
a quiet place
to think, work, and write.
!The
Writing Room cannot
provide you with:
-
editing or
proofreading services;
-
paper writing
or typing services;
-
estimates,
predictions, guarantees, or discussions of grades;
-
discussions
of specific instructors or these instructors' classroom policies; or
-
help on pieces
of writing that you wish to drop off and pick up later.
!To
use The Writing Room, you need to:
-
make an appointment
in
advance if you
would like to be assured of a tutor's availabilty,* or simply drop in.
Either way, please bring the following with you:
-
plenty of notebook
paper and a pen or a pencil;
-
your paper
assignment and any class notes pertaining to this assignment;
-
the textbooks
from the class for which the paper is being written;
-
any research
(library books, articles, etc.) and research notes for your paper;
-
any brainstorming,
prewriting, outlining, or general ideas you have jotted down relating to
your paper topic;
-
a list of specific
questions or concerns about your paper (if you plan to meet with a tutor);
and
-
a 3.5", IBM-compatible
floppy disk (if you plan to use a computer).

an appointment with a tutor, please sign your name in advance in
an available time slot on the appointment schedules posted on the bulletin
boards in Room 14. |
