Criteria for Student Evaluation of Faculty
1-4. These items provide the student with an opportunity to evaluate his/her performance in the course to date. By evaluating his/her performance in and commitment to the course, the student will become more focused on accurately assessing the instructor's performance in the course.

5. The instructor provides all students in each class with a complete course information sheet and implements the course objectives and semester plan as outlined in that document. This course information must reflect specific information in the college catalog as well as the specific course syllabus.

6. The instructor is punctual in meeting and dismissing classes. Each scheduled class must meet for the entire period and begin promptly on time.

7. The instructor uses class time effectively. The full class period is devoted to providing/delivering the defined course content stated in the syllabus.

8. The instructor documents and designs course assignments that are clear and precise. Students are not confused by the nature of the assignment or its requirements.

9. The instructor is available to students during posted office hours or by appointment. The instructor, whether part-time, adjunct, or full-time, maintains the required office hours as outlined in institutional policy and procedure.

10. The instructor develops examination questions and other graded assignments that are related to the course content.

11. The instructor grades examinations and other projects and returns these assignments to the student in a timely manner.

12. The instructor presents the defined course content in a clear, logical manner.

13. The instructor relates the course content to other fields of study and/or to life/career situations as appropriate.

14. The instructor promotes/cultivates analytical thinking among students. Presentation of course content includes integrating problem-solving skills, identifying relationships, and noting practical applications.

15. The instructor encourages students to ask questions and provides adequate class time, as needed, for discussion. The instructor also, when appropriate, tolerates opposing viewpoints as students express their opinions.

16. The instructor displays a keen interest in the subject matter taught and displays enthusiasm that suggests to the students the content presented is important and meaningful.

17. The instructor is courteous and considerate of all students. Students are treated with respect.

18. The instructor maintains a professional perspective when working/dealing with students and related instructional issues. The instructor remains impartial at all times.

19. The instructor delivers a college-level course. Within the definition of the course contained in the syllabus, students are challenged academically. The course has the necessary rigor expected of a college-level course.

20. The instructor is an effective classroom teacher. The instructor integrates into the course all of the critical points noted in the criterion enumerated above.

Criteria for Faculty Self-Assessment

A. Professional Growth

1. Faculty members, especially full-time instructors, are expected to become actively involved in the activities of the institution. Full-time instructors are contributing members of the faculty at the division as well as the institutional level.

2. The faculty member, whether part-time, adjunct, or full-time, complies with the institution's professional growth and/or development polices.

B. The faculty member provides feedback on the degree to which stated goals for the previous academic year were accomplished.

C. Evaluation Response

1. The instructor is provided with an opportunity to respond to the student evaluations. In responding, the instructor reviews the evaluations and gains constructive student input. 2. The instructor is provided with an opportunity to respond to the supervisor's evaluation. D. The instructor is asked to identify personal professional goals for the next academic year. In developing these goals at this point in the academic year, there is an opportunity to use them as an initial step in the division and/or institutional goal-setting process. Also, approved goals may have budget or course scheduling implications.

Criteria for Supervisor's Evaluation

Full-Time Faculty

1. Course information sheets are current and include all necessary components. These documents are reviewed by division chairmen to ensure they provide all necessary information. Copies of the course information sheets are kept on file in the Division Chairman's office as well as the Academic Affairs office.

2. The instructor teaches the assigned course as outlined in the approved course syllabus. All course requirements noted in the syllabus must be included in each section of the course such as common assignments, requirements, etc.

3. The instructor follows college policies as they relate to student conduct, appearance, and demeanor in the classroom. The instructor is expected to enforce and implement all appropriate college policies in this area as directed by the Division Chairman.

4. The instructor meets classes at the designated times and for the duration of the scheduled periods.

5. The instructor is punctual and maintains duty hours as defined by the institution. At this time full-time faculty are required to be on campus from 8:00 a.m. until 4:00 p.m. Monday through Friday. If an instructor's teaching assignment requires an alternate schedule, this schedule must be approved by the Division Chairman and comply with college policy.

6. The instructor maintains posted office hours as published and required by the institution.

7. The instructor meets division and college deadlines in submitting reports, course inventory scores, final grades, etc.

8. The instructor completes division-level responsibilities in a dependable manner.

9. The instructor serves on division/institutional committees as appointed. These assignments are accepted willingly and with a positive attitude.

10. The instructor participates in division decisions regarding curriculum review, course inventory instruments, textbook selection, supplementary materials, etc.

11. The instructor maintains appropriate division/college records as required.

12. The instructor attends and participates in general faculty/institutional meetings as required.

13. The instructor updates and maintains knowledge in the teaching discipline and related areas. The instructor complies with all appropriate college policies in this area such as professional development.

14. The instructor participates in advising and registration as assigned.

15. The instructor participates in and assists with collegiate activities such as club sponsorship, UIL competition, commencement, etc.

16. The instructor establishes and maintains effective, professional working relationships with students, colleagues, and supervisors.

17. The instructor projects a professional image. The instructor's appearance and conduct during duty hours are appropriate to the goals and nature of the institution in carrying out professional duties.

18. The instructor accepts constructive criticism. In working with colleagues, in reviewing evaluations, and so forth, the instructor demonstrates an interest in and willingness to accept and benefit from constructive feedback.

19. The instructor evaluates facts, situations and makes sound judgments. The instructor evaluates the relative merits of ideas and facts and arrives at sound conclusions that are consonant with the best interests of the students and the institution.

20. The instructor functions effectively as a professional member of the division. The instructor displays a professional and positive attitude toward students and colleagues in carrying out all defined duties and responsibilities.

Criteria for Supervisor's Evaluation

Adjunct Faculty

1. Course information sheets are current and include all necessary components. These documents are reviewed by division chairmen to ensure they provide all necessary information.
