Students have difficulty understanding the scientific method procedure and do not understand the types of error associated with the different research methods. |
A class lecture/lab will include the different methods of study/experimentation used in psychology. Students will participate in a brief experiment which illustrates the use of the scientific method and illustrates at least one of the research methods commonly used in psychology research. |
Students will participate in a discussion of the use of the scientific method in psychology. The discussion will include the different methods used in psychology and the errors associated with each method. Question 3 The major advantage of experimentation over other research methods is experiments allow for the examination of cause-and-effect relations among variables. |

Students will listen to a presentation about how their common behaviors, habits or personality may be the result of a variety of biological, social and psychological factors. Students will write or discuss what biological, social and psychological factors may have contributed to common behaviors they exhibit. |
Students will write or discuss a real-life behavior and discuss the influence of biological, social and psychological factors. Question 12 Watson’s “Little Albert” experiment showed that fears can be classically conditioned. |

Characterize the work of leading contributors to the field of psychology. |
Students have difficulty understanding the historical flow of thought because they do not understand the limitations of what psychologist knew at that point in time. |
Students will read brief biographies of psychologists, research biographies psychologist on the internet or listen to an oral lecture which includes a brief biographical presentation about a psychologist. The biographies or lecture will identify the time period the psychologist lived in and the training/knowledge base of science of the psychologist. |
Students will match psychologist with their major contributions to psychology and identify the major perspective of psychology for which they are known following the enhanced academic support activity provided for them by their instructor. Question 2 Wilhelm Wundt is considered to be the “Father of Psychology” because he established the first scientific psychology laboratory. |
