Coach Tra Arnold enters his first year as head coach with the Blinn College Buccaneer basketball program.
A native of Houston, Arnold is a graduate of Clear Creek High School where he played for Coach Buddy Carlisle. He then played for the College of Southern Idaho, which was ranked as the No. 1 junior college program in 2000-2001. He later played at Biola University in La Mirada, California under Dave Holmquist.
Coach Arnold received an associate in arts degree from College of Southern Idaho in 2002 and a bachelor of science in kinesiology from Biola in 2005. He’s completed a master of education degree in physical education from Prairie View A&M in 2009.
Coach Arnold and his wife Jodi reside in Brenham. Jodi played Division I basketball at the University of California-Riverside.
Assistant Coach Torrance Hicks
Torrance Hicks comes to Blinn College from Klein Collins High School in the Houston area where he served as an assistant basketball coach the last two years. In his first year, the team was ranked as the preseason No. 2 in the state and finished the season 30-5. His time in the private school ranks in Texas and Louisiana yielded players such as McDonald’s High School All-Americans Vakeaton “Von” Wafer, and Demond “Tweety” Carter along with six state championships. Hicks has also been a part of the Houston Select AAU basketball program since the spring of 2002. He has helped develop numerous athletes who have advanced to play basketball at Division 1 universities such as Oregon State, Bradley, Texas, Texas A&M, Baylor, and Gonzaga. His travels related to tournaments and camps have taken him across the country as well as to Europe and the Caribbean. Hicks graduated from Robert Morris College with a Bachelor’s of Business Administration and with a minor in Sports Management. He credits his parents, Nettye and W.K. Hicks, for his success and his love of sports. His father played defensive back for the Houston Oilers and the New York Jets. The love of his life is his daughter,
