Blinn Dance Team and Cheerleaders garner national championship bids
The Blinn College dance team and cheerleaders earned bids to the national competition in Daytona Beach, FL, in the spring due to their outstanding performances at the National Cheerleaders Association/National Dance Alliance camp at Southern Methodist University in Dallas.
The Blinn dance team finished second at the camp and was also highlighted in the NCA/NDA brochures for its national spring competitions, one of the few teams to receive the exposure. Carlynn Laurie of Katy, Kristen Carroll of Pearland, and J’nee Adams of Houston were selected as All American dancers. Laurie also won Top Gun Hip Hop dancer out of a field of more than 200 dancers.
The Blinn College cheerleaders won first in their division for the game day routine and the rally routine they were taught by camp staff, and were selected by the judges to perform their game day cheer at the awards ceremony on the final day. Katie King, team captain from Deer Park, Courtney Martinez and Malissa Johnson, both of Channelview, received All American honors.
Coach Karry Forsythe was pleased with the camp outcome not only in the way the teams competed, but in compliments from staff about her teams’ performances. “We have two amazing teams, and it will be fun and exciting to see what they will be able to do for Blinn College this year.”

Blinn Cheer & Dance Compete in Daytona Beach
The Blinn College cheer and dance teams competed this past week in Daytona Beach, Florida with NCA/NDA at their collegiate national competition. There were over 210 teams competing for 15 national titles this year. Our dance team had the highest score and rank Blinn has ever received with an 8.810 (out of 10)in the final competition finishing in 6th place. They were the top 2 year dance team at the contest and were only beat out by 5-four year universities. The cheerleaders also finished with their highest placement in 3rd place out of the 7 teams that competed and our highest judges score in five years with an 8.560 in the small coed II division. Highlights from their performances can be viewed on the varsity web site at www.varsity.com
Both groups were very pleased with their performances and their finish this year at nationals. Coach Forsythe could not be happier with the results! Go Bucs!

Blinn Dance Team defeats national champs
The Blinn College Dance Team defeated the seven-time national champion McLennan Community College (Waco) Dance Company to win the second of three national competitions this spring. The win at the American Dance Drill Team School March 28-29 in Denton was the first time the Blinn team under the direction of Karry Forsythe has beaten MCC.
The Blinn College Dance Team also captured first place March 15 at the Showtime International competition in Galveston. Next for the team is the NCA/NDA College Cheer and Dance Nationals in Daytona, FL, April 10-11. The dancers will be showing off their routines to the campus and community on April 7 at 5:30 in the PE gym.
