Harrison and Taylor share Buccaneer MVP award
Blinn College sophomore Verne’qua ‘NeNe” Taylor and freshman Audrisa Harrison will share the 2011 Don Wilhelm Award for being the Most Valuable Players on the women’s basketball team. The award, named for Blinn’s retired athletic director who served the college for 10 years, honors the team’s leaders on the court.
Taylor, a 5-5 point guard from Wharton averaged 9.45 and 6.1 assists a game. Taylor was the seventh in the nation in assists. She was also named to the Region XIV All-Conference team this year and will continue her collegiate career at Texas A&M Corpus Christi in the fall.
Harrison, a 5’9 forward from Coldspring, Texas, was the leading scorer for the 2010-2011 Lady Bucs, averaging 10.6 points per game, shooting 51 percent from the floor and averaging 6.74 rebounds a game. She was named to the Region XIV All-Conference team this year as a freshman.
The Women’s basketball team ended the 2010-2011 season with an overall 18-13 record.

Lady Bucs earn post-season honors
Four Blinn College women’s basketball players earned post-season honors this month. All four were named to the Region XIV All-Conference Team. Michaela Burton of Houston, Verne’qua ‘NeNe” Taylor of Wharton, Audrisa Harrison of Coldspring and Marqui Hodges of Mesquite achieved the recognition.
Hodges was also named to the Region XIV All-Academic Team. To qualify, a player must have completed at least 36 credit hours and have a grade point average of 3.25 or higher.
The Women’s basketball team ended the 2010-2011 season with an overall 18-13 record.

Blinn women basketball players commit to universities
Five Blinn Lady Bucs will continue their basketball careers at the university level this fall.
Team MVP Verne’qua ‘NeNe” Taylor signed to play at Texas A&M Corpus Christi. The 5-5 point guard from Wharton averaged 9.45 and 6.1 assists a game and was the seventh in the nation in assists. She was named to the Region XIV All-Conference team this year.
Marquesha Anderson-Sparks, a 5-9 guard from San Antonio, will be joining Taylor at Texas A&M Corpus Christi. Marqui Hodges, a 6-0 forward from Mesquite, committed to Midwestern State University in Wichita Falls, Texas. Raynisha Washington, a 5-9 guard from Silsbee, Texas, signed to play at Texas A&M Kingsville and Michaela Burton, a 5-7 guard from Houston will play for Prairie View A&M University.
