Head Coach Harvey McIntyre

 

Harvey McIntyre is in his second year as Head Coach of the Blinn Buccaneer Baseball Team.  Coach McIntyre took over the Buccaneers’ Program after seven years as the Pitching Coach under former Blinn Coach Brian Roper.  During his years as the Pitching Coach, his squad was consistently among the top teams in the conference in team ERA and walk-to-strikeout ratio. Coach McIntyre is also a Health Instructor at Blinn.

Coach McIntyre, a Brenham native and a 1995 graduate of Brenham High School.  During high school, he played under Coach Hathaway and in 1994 went to the State Tournament.  He began his college career at Howard College in Big Spring, TX under Brian Roper (1996-1997).  From Howard, he transferred to Northwestern State University in Natchitoches, LA and played baseball for the Demons under Coach Cohen and Coach Childress (1998-1999).  He earned his Bachelor’s Degree in General Studies while playing baseball.  After completing his degree, he played for the Alexandria Aces in Texas-Louisiana Independent Baseball League during the summer of 1999.

In 2000, he joined his mentor and friend Brian Roper at Blinn College as the Assistant Baseball Coach (Pitching Coach).  While coaching, he received his Master of Education degree in Health and Physical Education from Prairie View A&M University in 2005.  During the summer, Coach McIntyre gives lessons to kids of all ages, works various area camps, and holds the Harvey McIntyre Showcase at the Blinn College.  In June 2008, he was asked and worked for Elite Sports in Oahu, Hawaii.

During Coach McIntyre’s first season as the head coach, the Bucs finished fourth in Region XIV South Conference.  The team also received academic honors from the NJCAA.  The baseball team’s 3.11 GPA earned it a spot as one of the NJCAA Spring Academic Teams-of-the-Year.  To qualify, a team must have an average of at least a 3.0 GPA. 

Numerous players from the 2007-2008 team garnered individual awards. Outfielder Layton Hiller, from Victoria, TX earned individual honors as a Distinguished Academic All-American, All-Conference, and All-Region outfielder. Layton was a University of Louisville signee who was drafted by the Atlanta Braves in the 15th Round. Layton signed with the Atlanta Braves and began his professional career in the summer of 2008.  Trey Johnson, a freshman from Flint, TX was also recognized as an All-Conference Outfielder.  Trey has also signed to play with Mississippi State next year. Paul Demny, a freshman right handed pitcher from East Bernard, TX was drafted by the Washington Nationals in the 6th Round. Paul also chose to begin his career as a professional baseball player in the summer of 2008.

Five Blinn College sophomore baseball players were nominated to play in the Texas-New Mexico Junior College All Star Game.  They are among 26 players selected from eight colleges in Region XIV South.  The returning players are Mario Eramo, Zak Leonhardt, Zach Hardion, Trenton Irwin, and Trey Johnson. Coach McIntyre says, “These five men have emerged as leaders of the 2009 Blinn Bucs Baseball Team.” They set a great example on and off the field.  Coach McIntyre is excited about the 2009 Baseball Season.

He married the former Reagan Robinson of Brenham in 2003. They have a daughter, Emma Kate that is 3 years old. Coach McIntyre’s youngest brother, P.D. McIntyre is a freshman catcher on the Buccaneer baseball team. Coach McIntyre enjoys playing golf, working out, watching college football, and spending time with family and friends.

 

Andy Harrington

andyHarringtonAndy Harrington is in his fourth year with the Buc baseball staff as a volunteer coach.  Coach Harrington works primarily with the Buc hitters and outfielders.   
The native of Duncanville graduated from Duncanville High School and played for Coach Brian Roper at Howard College before moving on to play for Steve Coleman at Hardin-Simmons University.

Coach Harrington began his coaching career as the graduate assistant for Coach Steve Coleman at Hardin-Simmons University during the 2005 season.   Following that season he moved on to serve as the volunteer assistant here at Blinn College. 

He earned his bachelor of business administration and master of business administration degrees at Hardin-Simmons University.  He is also an economics instructor at Blinn.
Coach Harrington is single and has one brother, Logan, who is a pitcher for the Mt. View College Lions.

His hobbies include investing, reading, and playing golf.

 

Russell Carter

Russell Carter enters his 2nd season with the Blinn baseball program.   Coach Carter coaches 1st base for the Bucs while serving as the catching coach and the strength and conditioning coordinator. 

He began his collegiate coaching career in 2005 at The University of Texas at Dallas where he served under Shane Shewmake as the Pitching Coach.  Additionally he coached the catchers, implemented the strength and conditioning program, assisted in the recruitment of student-athletes, and daily field maintenance.   During his tenure at UT-Dallas Coach Carter received his Masters in Business Administration with a concentration in Finance.   During 2006 & 2007 UT-Dallas finished 2nd in the ASC East division while placing 3rd in the West Regional in 2007.

During the summer of 2007, he assisted with the Edenton Steamers of the Coastal Plains League.  The Steamers won both the 1st and 2nd half championship while having 6 players selected in the Major League Draft and two others signing professional contracts.  For the past 3 summers Coach Carter has traveled abroad with USA Athletes International visiting Amersterdam, Aruba, and Australia, winning tournaments in both Amsterdam and Australia.

A native of Richardson, Coach Carter played college ball for Coach Tom Hager at Jamestown College in Jamestown, N.D., where the team won the 2004 regional championship and a berth in the NAIA World Series. Prior to his time at Jamestown, he spent two year at Southwestern University in Georgetown. His senior year at Jamestown he hit .397.  He was a member of 3 conference championships during his 4 year college career.

Troy Moock

Troy MoockCoach Moock enters his second season a Buccaneer assistant coach.  His duties include working with the infielder s and steering the offense from the third base box.  He also organizes the Buccaneer fund raising and this year’s first annual “Turn Back the Clock Night” , a set of promotional games to benefit a local charity. 

Coach Moock began his coaching career as the volunteer assistant for Coach Brian Roper here at Blinn during the 2005 season.   Following that season he moved on to serve as the Volunteer Assistant coach at Northwestern State University.  While at NSU Moock coached the outfielders and in the first base box as well as organizing fund raising events, winter and summer camps, team travel and general facilities upkeep. 

During the summers of 2006 and 2007 Moock helped guide the Vermont Mountaineers to back-to-back New England Collegiate Baseball League Championships.  Moock had the opportunity to coach some of the best college players from all over the nation while in Vermont.  He has been fortunate enough to have coached 20 players who have been selected in the Major League Draft.  The highest being the 25thoverall pick in June 2008.

A native of Baton Rouge Louisiana, Moock earned All-State honors in 1999 as an infielder.  He moved on to earn his degree in Sports Management from East Tennessee State University in 2004 where he finished his playing career.

 

As a member of the National Junior College Athletic Association, the Buccaneers compete in the Region XIV Athletic Conference and the Southwest Junior College Football Conference.The Buccaneers compete in football, men’s and women’s basketball, baseball, softball and volleyball. Complementing the athletic teams are the Blinn Cheerleaders, the Buccaneer Treasures Dance Team and the Blinn College Marching Band. All athletic teams are located on the Brenham campus.
