EDUCATION:
M.A., Biology and Chemistry, Sam Houston State University
B.Sc., Biomedical Science and Entomology, Texas A&M University

About Me: At the beginning of my undergraduate career, I knew that I loved science and wanted to pursue a career doing something with that interest. I just didn’t know yet what that “something” was! I entered Texas A&M University as a Biomedical Science major because I’d always been fascinated and awed by how truly amazing the human body is. My junior year as an undergraduate marked a turning point for me, as this is the moment that I truly became passionate about biology. I discovered two disciplines in biology that captured me hook, line and sinker. One was microbiology and the other was entomology. Upon graduating with my Bachelor’s of Science, I chose to stay in the academic setting and taught the same undergraduate course that first sparked my interest in microbiology. But, after teaching for a year and a half, my second passion took hold and I decided to continue my education by studying entomology. In my graduate coursework, I also had the opportunity to study many other disciplines of biology such as evolution, zoology, parasitology, environmental science, and biochemistry. I also had the opportunity to teach labs and classes while in graduate school and this was the defining moment for me. I now knew without any doubt that my love of science and learning made me a perfect fit for teaching.

Teaching Philosophy: In my classes, I always try to relate the fundamental concepts of biology to the world around us and to the intricacies of the human body. My goal as a teacher is to never stop learning along with my students and to spark their interest in biology by sharing with them all of the amazing things that I had the opportunity to discover or learn in my various biology courses and research.
