Backwater Areas

In backwater areas the water moves slowly. It carries less oxygen and consequently you will find different animals living in this region of the river.

This is a good spot to look for crayfish.

This is also a good place to find grass shrimp, tadpoles and mosquito fish.

If there is sufficient oxygen and cover you will also find dragonfly naiads or nymphs.

This one is almost ready to molt for the last time and become an adult. Note the beginnings of wings on its back.
