                                               Teaching Philosophy:

: "Mathematics is a participation sport" is the class motto in Judy Wagner's mathematics class. Students will recognized that mathematics is best learned in a cooperative situation in her class. Student will learn to rely on each other to work together in groups to do such things as complete homework and class projects. Student will learn that one of the most valuable lessons that can be learned in this class involves more than mathematics. Students will learn they are responsible for their own learning environment. Students will learn to be organized and to complete assignments in a timely manner. Students will learn that practice is the key to success in mathematics. Students will learn that class attendance is a must for success in her class. Students will learn to take advantage of the many learning aids Blinn College has to offer such as free tutoring in the learning center, math tutoring in the math tutor room in regular session, and teacher office hours. Judy Wagner can be reached at home by telephone 690-1123 and by E-mail: judybwagner@hotmail.com. She will act as a coach in class by presenting the material using a play Manuel ( instructional packet ) which she has written for her classes. In that Manuel, students will find an informative play by play guide with a series of assignments structured to encourage students to successfully learn to play the "game of mathematics". Students will learn some skills which can be used in many real life situations. Mrs. Wagner loves coaching and feels she is successful when her students learn to play the game without anxiety and with confidence. She believes mathematics can be fun for students if they learn the math skills that are necessary to play the math game.

Judy Wagner is a swim coach and an accomplished competitive master's swimmer. She spend hundreds of hours looking at the black line at the bottom of a swimming pool training by practicing stroke drills as well as aerobic conditioning. She coaches her mathematics class in the same way she would coach any sport. If she were a football coach, she would tell you that you could not play in the Friday night game if you had not attended the weekly practices. She would tell you the skill of any player in any sport depends upon the amount of practice spent doing the drills necessary to complete successfully. She would tell you team players are responsible for having individual goals as well as team goals. She would tell you that it takes work everyday to accomplish these goals. She will tell you that when she competes she has learned that when the gun goes off at a swim meet, if she doesn't swim well, her performance is not the result of the coach's poor performance. Her poor race performance is a result of her own improper manipulation of her swim enviroment prior to the race. She feels her students will learn it is their responsibility to manipulate their enviroment so that they and other members of her team will be successful. Judy Wagner will do the best job that she can to present the material in the class in an interesting and fun atmosphere because she really likes coaching (teaching) and she loves people and truly wants her team to be a winning team.
