The Writing Center Staff

The Writing Center staff is dedicated to providing excellent tutorial services to Blinn students. The writing consultants are professional tutors with writing backgrounds. In addition to tutoring students, writing consultants assist instructors in the Parallel Studies labs, give presentations to classes, lead orientation sessions, present student workshops, and develop handouts, worksheets, and writing materials for students. Writing consultants also complete many hours of training and exceed all training requirements established by the College Reading and Learning Association (CRLA), which certifies the Writing Center.

Amy Bilski-Arredondo

Amy earned her Bachelor of Arts degree in University Studies at Texas Tech University. One of her areas of concentration was English. A former Blinn College student, she enjoys tutoring students in the Writing Center and assisting instructors in the Parallel Studies labs. Amy joined the Writing Center staff in 2013.

Jaynann Boulter

Jaynann completed her bachelor's degree in English Teaching at Brigham Young University. While at BYU, she participated in the Central Utah Writing Project One-Week Institute, a program that focuses on writing-related training and education. Jaynann has experience in teaching and enjoys helping students develop their writing skills. Jaynann joined the Writing Center staff in 2016.

Monica Byrne

Monica has a Bachelor of Arts degree in English and a Master of Education degree in Education from Texas A&M University. She is certified to teach English Language Arts and Reading in grades 8-12. Monica taught first-year English for three years at Texas A&M as a graduate teaching assistant. She enjoys helping students become better writers. Monica started working in the Writing Center in 2004.

Martha Chumchal

Martha received a B.A. degree in Psychology with a minor in Forensic Psychology at Texas State University in 2015. Martha graduated Summa Cum Laude from Texas State University. She plans to earn a master's degree in Psychology at Sam Houston State University. Martha tutored in the Student Learning Assistance Center at Texas State University. Her devotion to education, paired with her passion for helping students, allows her to make tutoring a creative and intellectual process. Martha began working in the Blinn Writing Center in 2015.

Gena Gilcrease

Gena graduated from the University of Texas at Austin with a B.A. in Theater Directing. She received an M.A. in film from San Francisco State University and an M.A. in Theology and Consciousness Studies from the Holmes Institute. Gena has taught in adult education for ten years, has written and directed training films, and is working on several writing projects. Gena loves guiding the creative process and a successful writing experience. Gena joined the Writing Center staff in 2013.

Patricia Henschen

Patricia earned her B.A. degree in International Studies at Austin College and her M.A. degree in Literature and Women’s Studies at the University of Houston – Clear Lake. Patricia taught at the college level, and she also worked as a technical writer for NASA-JSC and IBM. A published poet and essayist, Patricia is working on her first book. She is also a member of Toastmasters, through which she has earned her Advanced Communication Silver and Competent Leader awards. She enjoys helping students to explicate short stories, poems, and plays. Patricia joined the Writing Center staff in 2012.

Nicole Perkins

Nicole is currently a READ 0305 and 0306 instructor at Blinn College. She graduated from Texas A&M with a degree in English (creative writing) and a minor in film. She earned her Masters in Education degree from Texas A&M and is certified to teach Reading and English Language Arts in grades 8-12. She has also taught at the high school level. Nicole loves facilitating student learning and engaging students both in the classroom and in the Writing Center. Nicole joined the staff in 2007.

Morgan Pesek Morgan earned a B.A. degree in English at Texas A&M University. She has taught English in public schools in Bryan and Houston, and she has extensive experience helping students with their writing. Morgan joined the Writing Center staff in 2015.

Lori Pieratt

Lori received her B.B.A. degree in Marketing from Texas State University. She then completed her education studies at Baylor University in order to obtain her secondary teaching certification. Lori has experience teaching in public schools. She began working in the Writing Center in 2015.

Caleb Mullins

Caleb is a former Blinn College student who went on to earn his B.A. degree in anthropology, with a minor in English, at Texas A&M University. Caleb’s interests include archaeology, medieval literature, classical mythology, and military history. Caleb joined the Writing Center staff in 2014. Caleb is currently pursuing an M.A. degree in English at Texas A&M University.

Marty Reed

Marty is a certified English teacher with 13 years of classroom teaching experience. She also has 10 years of experience working as a dyslexia specialist/academic therapist. Marty has worked in both the Writing Center and the Parallel Studies labs since the fall of 2005. She is a mom of four and a grandmother. She enjoys working with Blinn students and seeing the improvement in their reading and writing skills. Marty joined the Writing Center staff in 2005.

Sharon Roe

Sharon earned her Bachelor of Arts degree in English Literature at Austin College. She served as a Developmental English and GED instructor at Grayson County College from 1996 to 2003. In addition to her teaching experience, Sharon launched and administered two Conversational English schools in Japan. She enjoys writing and working with students in the Writing Center. Sharon began working in the Writing Center in 2010.

Bonnie Schroeder

Bonnie graduated from Sam Houston State University with a Bachelor of Arts degree in teaching and a minor in history. She has 32 years of experience teaching in Texas public schools. Bonnie states, “I so love working with reading and writing students. It is very gratifying to watch students obtain knowledge, apply newly acquired skills, and achieve success.” Bonnie has been tutoring in the Writing Center since 2004.

Janalisa Soltis

Janalisa graduated from Texas A&M University with a B.B.A. degree in Marketing. She has always enjoyed writing and editing through the years. In fact, she previously freelance edited for the Texas Transportation Institute and is currently serving as a co-editor/writer for the local magazine, Flair. As a Writing Center tutor, Janalisa enjoys being part of those “ah ha” moments with students as they discover and develop their talents as writers. Janalisa joined the staff in 2011.

Dr. Richard Williamson, Director

Dr. Williamson earned his Bachelor of Arts degree in English, Journalism, and French and his Master of Arts degree in English at Sam Houston State University. He earned his Ph.D. at the University of North Texas, with an emphasis on American literature and the writings of Nathaniel Hawthorne. Before arriving at Blinn College, he taught English and coordinated the Writing Center at Muskingum University in Ohio. In addition to directing the Writing Center, he teaches English classes at Blinn.
