We are very fortunate to have an exceptional tutoring team here at Blinn. In addition to having a writing background, the tutors complete hours of training under the supervision of the director and veteran tutors. In addition to tutoring students, the tutors develop handouts, worksheets, workshops, advertising materials, and parts of the website. We hope you'll come in and meet them soon!

Rosie Banda
Writing Assistant / Workshop Presenter / Instructional Assistant

Rosie Banda is currently working on her PhD in Higher Education at Texas A&M.  She received her M.A. in Higher Education from the University of Texas at San Antonio and has a B.A. in Communications with a concentration in public relations from the University of Texas at San Antonio as well.  Before moving to College Station, Rosie was a middle and high school English teacher and the English coordinator for a charter school district in San Antonio.

Nathan Belcik
Writing Consultant / Instructional Assistant

Nathan graduated from the University of Texas at Austin with a B.A. in Linguistics and a minor in Sociology.  Shortly thereafter, he spent two years in South Korea teaching English as a Second Language and studying Korean.  His love for language encompasses more than just foreign language; he aspires to help anyone with a desire to learn English succeed.  At the Blinn Writing Center, Nathan hopes to help students conquer their fear of writing and gain confidence in expression.

Monica Byrne
Writing Consultant / Workshop Presenter

Monica Byrne has a BA in English and a Masters Degree in Education from Texas A&M University. She is also certified to teach English Language Arts and Reading in grades 8-12. She taught Freshman English for three years at Texas A&M as a Graduate Teaching Assistant and enjoys helping students become better writers.

Bethany Douglass
Writing Consultant

Bethany graduated from the University of North Texas with a B.A. in English Literature and Technical Writing. Over the last few years, she has written intermittently for other people and businesses. But mostly, she has spent her time having/taking care of her 3 little children. While working at the writing center, Bethany hopes to inspire Blinn students to overcome the anxiety of writing, and to discover their own ability to communicate ideas on paper.

Eric Ellsworth
Writing Consultant / Instructional Assistant  

Eric earned his BA from UT Pan-America where he majored in both English and Political Science. He is a certified English teacher and is currently employed at Lamar Alternative High School. Eric has spent his career making English simple and enjoys helping Blinn students to make their essays stronger.

Nicole Ford
Writing Consultant
Nicole graduated from Sam Houston State University with a major in Literature and a minor in Spanish. Nicole taught high school English before joining The Writing Center. She writes fiction and loves words. She is currently attending A&M and working towards her masters in Hispanic studies. She is passionate about writing and helping students.

Faith Fuqua
Writing Consultant

Faith graduated from Texas A&M University with a B.A. in English. She focused her studies on Creative Writing. She believes that although writing is often a wrestling match in the mind, it can also be an enjoyable process.  Before sitting down to write, she enjoys creating a comfortable and inspiring writing environment by turning on lamps, lighting candles, and making a fresh pot of coffee!  

Brandon Garner
Writing Consultant

Brandon graduated from Texas Tech University in 2000 with a BA in English literatue and language, minoring in history and German. He taught outdoor education for many years before pursuing a Master's degree at Stephen F. Austin in literature, with an emphasis on creative writing and composition and rhetoric. He is currently seeking a publishing house for his creative thesis and working on a second novel.

Emily Hoeflinger
Writing Consultant
Emily Hoeflinger graduated from Drew University with a degree in literature, non-fiction writing and secondary education. She received her M.A. in American Literature from Montclair State University, where she taught developmental writing, tutored and coordinated the MSU Writing Center. Currently, she is working on her doctoral degree in late twentieth century American Literature and women’s and gender studies at Texas A&M University. Emily enjoys seeing each student’s unique life experiences and voice revealed in their writing.

Ryan Huff
Instructional Assistant / Writing Consultant /
Workshop Presenter

Ryan graduated from Texas A&M University with a Bachelor of Arts in English.  While an undergraduate, he focused his studies on the creative writing of prose fiction.  He also enjoyed a stint as a features writer for Texas A&M's student newspaper, The Battalion.  By working at the writing center, Ryan hopes to help students discover the power of their ideas and the importance of their writing.
Nicole Jennings
Writing Consultant

Nicole Jennings graduated from Liberty University with a B.A. in both Spanish and Teaching English as a Second Language. Before moving to Texas, Nicole was a language instructor for a language academy in her native Minnesota. Nicole loves learning and exploring language as well as watching others "dig in" and discover the power of the language. She believes that every writer has value and hopes to help Blinn students improve and enjoy their writing.

Kelly Konescheck
Writing Consultant

Kelly Konesheck graduated from Houston Baptist University with a double major in Writing and Speech Communication. As an undergraduate, she focused her studies on creative writing in both fiction and non-fiction. She acted as editor for HBU's English and Writing Newsletter and published stories in the university's literary journal, Crossroads. She enjoys working with students in the Writing Center on developing confidence in their own ideas and writing styles.

Nicole Perkins
Writing Assistant / Workshop Presenter / Instructional Assistant
Nicole Perkins is currently a READ 0305 and 0306 instructor at Blinn.  In 1995 she graduated from OCC with her AA in general education.  She graduated in 2003 with her degree in English (creative writing) and minor in film from Texas A&M.  In 2005, she graduated with her Masters in Education from Texas A&M.  She is certified to teach 8th-12th Reading and English Language Arts and taught at the 11th & 12th high school level.  She has been teaching at Blinn for six years and this is her third year working as a writer center consultant.  She loves facilitating student learning and engaging her students both in the classroom and the writing center.

Marty Reed
Writing Consultant / Instructional Assistant /Workshop Presenter

Marty is a certified English teacher with 13 years of classroom teaching experience as well as 10 years experience working as a dyslexia specialist/academic therapist. Marty has worked in both the Writing Center and the Developmental Labs since the fall of 2005. She is also a mom of four and a grandmother of 6. She most enjoys working with Blinn students and seeing the improvement in their reading and writing skills.

Sonya Sawyer
Writing Assistant / Workshop Presenter

Sonya Sawyer graduated from Harding University in Arkansas with a B.A. in English. She moved to College Station four years ago to begin graduate school at Texas A&M and earned her Master's degree in English in 2003. She is currently working on her PhD in English and teaches Introduction to Literature. Her favorite part of working with students on their writing is helping them develop and strengthen their own voice.

Bonnie Schroeder
Writing Consultant / Instructional Assistant

Bonnie graduated from Sam Houston State University with a B.A. in teaching and a minor in history. She has 32 years of experience teaching in Texas public schools. She declares, "I so love working with reading and writing students. It is very gratifying to watch students obtain knowledge, apply new acquired skills, and achieve success."
Astrid Slagle
Writing Consultant

Astrid graduated from the University of Arizona with an MFA in Fiction. She has taught undergraduate creative writing, worked as fiction editor for the Sonora Review, and has had her stories published in various literary journals. Astrid loves to share her love for language, and hopes to help the students here at Blinn feel confident in their writing abilities.

Kurt Wilson
Writing Consultant

Kurt Wilson graduated from The University of Texas at Austin with a major in their Plan II program. He worked many years for book publishers such as Little, Brown and Harcourt Brace. His humor column, Lawrence of Suburbia,  was distributed to newspapers all over North America by Knight-Ridder/Tribune wire service. At present he is co-owner and editor of a quarterly magazine, The Round Top Register . Kurt was a writing tutor in Northern California before returning to live in his native Texas.
