Education:
I am a 1986 and 1990 graduate of Southwest Texas State University in San Marcos, Texas.  In 1986 I graduated with a double major in English and marketing.  A double major is basically a thirty hour load above a regular bachelor degree.  I did this because while I enjoyed business, I had also discovered a joy for tutoring students in writing.  I worked as a writing tutor at SLAC (Student Learning Assistance Center) at SWT from 1982 until I graduated in 1986.

I stayed at SWT because I loved the school and the town and didn't particularly want to face the "real world."  I worked on a masters in English with an eighteen hour minor in reading education (meaning that I can teach reading; in fact, I've done that, too.) from 1986 to 1990.  While I worked on my masters, I earned rent money teaching and working in the English department's writing lab, called The Write Stuff.  I taught both semesters of freshman composition, like our 1301 and 1302.

I began working at Blinn College in August of 1990 on the Brenham campus.  I transferred to the Bryan campus in fall 1999.  I am currently a student at TAMU, working on a doctoral program in EHRD (Educational Human Resource Development).  My area of interest is adult education.

It probably sounds like I'm a book worm who just can't get enough of school, but believe me when I tell you that I can't wait to be finished!  I have finally gotten enough, and I hope to be graduated by fall 2002.  I do love teaching, however.  That is a real pleasure for me; I know that all the schooling has been worth it.

What do I do when I'm not a teacher or a student?
Well, I am the mother of two girls (ages almost 6 and almost 2), and in September of 2000 I will also be the mother of one boy.  My husband and I love hanging out with our kids, and we spend a good deal of time with family who are scattered between here, Houston, and San Antonio.  I enjoy gardening, especially when everything grows, and there are always tomato plants in containers in my backyard.  I like to read John Grisham novels, but I'm more likely to read Peter Pan or Dr. Seuss.  I make really good peanut butter and cheese sandwiches.  I like surfing the Net and reading email messages.   I also like watching educational TV and anything with Harrison Ford, Tom Hanks, and Julia Roberts.  In my CD rack I have Cheryl Crow, Del Amitri, Garth Brooks, Prince, AC/DC, and assorted classical music.

What interests me when I'm a teacher?
I know that writing is not everyone's favorite subject or the one that they're best at.  So, I try to find ways to make writing interesting and doable.  I believe that the more that student's talk about their writing skills, thrills, hesitations, and tribulations, the more that they will get out of their writing experience.  I would like each of you to remember that I am available to you as you work through this course.  No question is invalid or trivial; feel free to contact me at any time.
