Impatica for PowerPoint

Overview

Impatica for PowerPoint is software that packages a Microsoft PowerPoint presentation into a file that can be viewed over the Internet without additional user software. Impatica files are much smaller than their PowerPoint counterparts, so they can be played with little difficulty by students with slow Internet connections.

Staff narrate their PowerPoint and perform the Impatica conversion in the Distance Ed office, in the Instructional Design lab, or on the computer in their department that has the license for the software. Audio input to the computer (normally via microphone/headset) is required to narrate the PowerPoint and best results are achieved in a quiet area with little background noise.

Impatica for PowerPoint supports most of the features of PowerPoint, including text, graphics, transitions, animation effects and, of course, narration. View a video overview of Impatica here.

Adding Narration to a PowerPoint Presentation

Impaticize your PowerPoint Presentation

  1. Using the multimedia computer in Distance Ed or the Instructional Design lab, start Impatica.
  2. Click <ADD> locate the relevant PowerPoint file and click <OPEN>. As a default, the new files that will be created will be stored with your original PowerPoint file.
  3. In the Slide Show tab, make the following selections: Include Playback Controls, New Impatica file format (and Apply extra compression).
  4. In the Media tab, if your presentation has sound, select the sound quality: Compact.
  5. In the Extra Output Files tab, select both HTML and ZIP. The zip format is what you load into Angel, while the html format is what you would put on the Blinn website.
  6. Click Impaticize.
  7. Click Done to close Impatica.
