Texas Counselor's Network

The Brazos Valley College Tech Prep Partnership is an active member of the Texas Counselor's Network.

Many Texas school counselors are required to attend staff development sessions on a regular basis. These professional development opportunities are, most often, geared to topics mostly related to teachers, and seldom to their specific areas of interest and expertise, such as career guidance and workforce education.

Texas counselors' Network provides all public education counselors, those at the elementary, middle and high school, and community college levels, to meet together several times a year to further their careers and contacts. Workshops are designed to provide counselor's with the vital guidance information and critical peer interaction so necessary to personal and professional success. The composition of the network, which includes all educational levels and other entities/agencies providing guidance and counseling, allows a seamless transaction of information from one grade to another, and from classroom to community to workplace.

Each network has a steering committee charged with planning each session, from the date and place counselors will meet to the topics of discussion and the speakers and facilitators to be utilized. The workshops are designed to ensure that "hot" and late-breaking issues are addressed, new workforce information is supplied, and networking opportunities are provided.

Texas Counselors' Networks have been especially successful in rural areas, ensuring that counselors no longer work in isolation, but that they are introduced to valuable information and invaluable relationships with professional peers. Counselors' Networks have a proven "track record" in their benefit both to individual counselors and to current School-to-Work and Tech Prep leaders as well.
