Students must complete the Blinn-Brenham general admissions process to be reviewed for qualification.

Minimum overall program requirements
Minimum requirements for this program are to be college Calculus I ready.  To meet this minimum requirement, one of the following criteria must be met:

  • Complete MATH 1316 or above (or be in progress during Spring 2018 with an “A” in MATH 1414)
  • Score at least a 28 in MATH on the ACT
  • Score at least a 630 in MATH on the SAT

Students Pre-Calculus ready at the time of application may be considered; however, students must be college Calculus I ready by fall 2018.  Pre-Calculus minimum requirements are:

  • Score at least a 25 in MATH on the ACT
  • Score at least a 580 in MATH on the SAT

Beginning March 1, 2018, students are reviewed for qualification and if found to have met the minimum requirements for the academy, students will receive an email notification containing the Texas A&M Engineering Academy at Blinn-Brenham application link.  Students should then follow these steps:

  1. Complete the application found within the email notification.
  2. Submit required documents to Texas A&M as outlined within Texas A&M’s AIS portal.
  3. Questions about this application should be directed to engineeringacademies@tamu.edu.

Once a student’s file is complete with Texas A&M, decisions are normally released within 4-6 weeks.  Students could receive a decision to this program as soon as April 15, 2018.  Decisions will appear in the student’s AIS portal and are also sent out by USPS.

  4. All students need to complete the Blinn Math Placement Exam (BMPE).  The BMPE has a new format.  The test is now all-in-one with 40 total questions covering both Algebra and Trigonometry concepts.  New score placement* for number of questions correct out of 40 is:
    • Pre-Calculus placement = 20-24
    • Calculus I placement = 25-40
    • College Algebra placement = 0-19

Students in the program must place either in Pre-Calculus or Calculus I.  Students may take the BMPE up to 2 times.  If the highest level achieved after two takes is Pre-Calculus, students must enroll in MATH 2412 (Pre-Calculus) over summer 2018 and pass the course with a C or better to retain acceptance into Engineering Academy for fall 2018.
*The Blinn MPE website has not yet been updated with the new scoring information, so please use these above stated cut scores as your guide.

  1. Students admitted to the program should confirm their acceptance as soon as possible as program capacity is 100 students.
