Prospective Student Trainers
What you can expect from Blinn College?
-Blinn College is dedicated to improving the confidence and knowledge of it’s student trainers. Student trainers work a primary sport in addition to a secondary sport. This provides a broader range of knowledge due to the different injuries that are sustained in each sport. The athletic training department provides the student trainers with t-shirts and a collared shirt. Students have the option of designing their own apparel and the athletic training dept. will pay for half of it. Every year the student trainers attend the Southwest Athletic Trainers Association meeting. Blinn pays for the rooms, meals and registration of the students who attend. Blinn student trainers also attend the Greater Houston Athletic Trainers Association.
What Blinn College expects of you.
-Students are expected to raise their level of knowledge based upon personal experiences and using the resources that are available at Blinn College. Students are expected to take three specific classes while at Blinn in order to assist in their development as athletic trainers. These courses include; First Aid, Care and Prevention of Athletic Injuries, and Physiology and Anatomy.
Scholarships
-Blinn College offers scholarships to athletic trainers, managers and filmers. These scholarships are not guaranteed. Scholarships are distributed on the basis of financial need and competency as an athletic trainer. Students should not expect to receive a scholarship simply because they come to Blinn. Scholarships are a privilege that must be earned. All students are encouraged to visit with their high school counselor as well as with the Financial Aid department at Blinn College in order to determine how much assistance they qualify for. Students will not be informed of their scholarship status until just before the semester begins.
Fundraisers
-Student trainers have the opportunity to raise money for their trip to SWATA, GHATS and to pay for clothing. The athletic training department runs the concession stand at all home volleyball, men’s and women’s basketball games. The student trainers run the ticket stand at all home games in the gym in addition to all home baseball games. Students trainers can also be line judges at volleyball games and can run the clock at basketball games to benefit the club account.
