Region XIV Softball Champs

Six Blinn Student Athletes named All-Academic

The National Junior College Athletic Association has announced that six Blinn College student-athletes have received academic honors.
Kara Stinson, a member of the NJCAA National Champion Volleyball team, was named Distinguished Academic All-American.

In order to qualify as an NJCAA Distinguished Academic All-American, a sophomore student-athlete must carry a grade point average of 3.80 overall or better for the academic year. Kara Stinson had a perfect 4.0 grade point average in her two year career at Blinn College.

Caley Jeter, Korinne Stinson, Jennifer Goodwin, Lori Hunsucker and Walter (Trey) Johnson, were named Academic All-Americans.

Caley Jeter who was also named second team All American for her play as a member of the Region XIV Champion softball team for Blinn. Korinne Stinson, Jennifer Goodwin and Lori Hunsucker were also members of the volleyball team. Trey Johnson was a standout member of Blinn’s Baseball team.

In order to qualify as an NJCAA Academic All-American, a sophomore student-athlete must carry a grade point average of 3.60 overall or better for the academic year.

Five of the six student athletes will continue playing at four year schools next year. Caley Jeter (Texas A&M Corpus Christi), Jennifer Goodwin and Lori Hunsucker ( Louisiana Tech) Kara Stinson (Texas State), and Trey Johnson (Mississippi State).

Blinn softball coaches earn regional honor

The National Fastpitch Coaches Association today named Blinn College head coach Rick Church and assistant coach Jami Ingram as the Midwest Region Coaching Staff of the Year. The Lady Bucs have been to the national tournament three times in six years, finishing fourth this year with a 56-11 record.

Church is the all-time winningest coach at Blinn. For the year, Blinn had five players named to the all-Midwest region team and had two players selected NFCA First Team All-American.

The National Coaching Staff of the Year award went to national champion Yavapai College.

As a member of the National Junior College Athletic Association, the Buccaneers compete in the Region XIV Athletic Conference and the Southwest Junior College Football Conference. The Buccaneers compete in football, men’s and women’s basketball, baseball, softball and volleyball. Complementing the athletic teams are the Blinn Cheerleaders, the Buccaneer Treasures Dance Team and the Blinn College Marching Band. All athletic teams are located on the Brenham campus.
