Head Coach Harvey McIntyre

 

Harvey McIntyre is in his third year as head coach of the Blinn Buccaneer baseball team.  Coach McIntyre took over the Buccaneers’ program after seven years as the pitching coach under former Blinn Coach Brian Roper. During his years as the pitching coach, his squad was consistently among the top teams in the conference in team ERA and walk-to-strikeout ratio. During Coach McIntyre's third season as head coach, the Bucs posted a 42-17 record and finished second in the Region XIV South Conference. Coach McIntyre is also a health instructor at Blinn.

Coach McIntyre is a Brenham native and a 1995 graduate of Brenham High School. During high school, he played under Coach Earl Hathaway and, in 1994, went to the state tournament. He began his college career at Howard College in Big Spring under Brian Roper (1996-1997). He transferred to Northwestern State University in Natchitoches, LA, and played baseball for the Demons (1998-1999). He earned his bachelor’s degree in general studies and, after graduating, he played for the Alexandria Aces in the Texas-Louisiana Independent Baseball League during the summer of 1999.

In 2000, he joined his mentor and friend Brian Roper at Blinn College as the assistant baseball coach (pitching). He received his Master of Education degree in Health and Physical Education from Prairie View A&M University in 2005. 

During the summer, Coach McIntyre gives lessons to children of all ages, works various area camps, and holds the Harvey McIntyre Showcase at Blinn College. In June 2008, he worked for Elite Sports in Oahu, HI.

Numerous players from the 2008-2009 team garnered individual awards. Outfielder Trey Johnson earned All-Region, All-American, and Academic All-American honors. Outfielder Cody Morrison earned All-Conference and All-Region honors. Right-handed pitcher Trenton Irwin and left-handed pitcher Zach Hardoin also earned All-Conference honors. There were a total of ten players from the 2009 Bucs that signed national letters of intent with four-year universities. Johnson, short stop Jonathon Ogden, and right-handed pitcher Michael Dixon signed with Mississippi State University; Morrison with Texas A&M University; left-handed pitcher Brian Smith with Sam Houston State University; Hardoin with the University of Missouri; designated hitter Mario Eramo with Penn State University; Irwin with Texas A&M-Corpus Christi; first baseman Zak Leonhardt with San Angelo State University; and right-handed pitcher Kendall Korbal initially signed with Texas Christian University before opting to sign with the San Diego Padres after being taken in the 21st round of the Major League draft.

Four Blinn College sophomores were nominated to play in the Texas-New Mexico Junior College All-Star Game. They are among 26 players selected from eight colleges in Region XIV South. The returning players are Chris Hernandez, David Tittle, Jonathon Delgado, and Michael Guerra. Coach McIntyre says “These five men have emerged as leaders of the 2010 Blinn Bucs baseball team. They set a great example on and off the field.”

Coach McIntyre married the former Reagan Robinson of Brenham in 2003. They have a daughter Emma Kate, 4, and are expecting a baby boy in late spring. Coach McIntyre’s youngest brother P.D. McIntyre is a sophomore catcher on the Buccaneer baseball team. Coach McIntyre enjoys playing golf, hunting, working out, watching college football, and spending time with family and friends.

Russell Carter

Russell Carter enters his third season with the Blinn baseball program. He coaches first base. Additionally, he serves as the catchers’ and outfielders’ coach, assists with the hitters, and is the strength and conditioning coordinator. 

He began his collegiate coaching career in 2005 at The University of Texas at Dallas where he served under Shane Shewmake as the pitching coach. He also coached the catchers, implemented the strength and conditioning program, assisted in the recruitment of student-athletes, and assisted with daily field maintenance. During 2006 and 2007, UT-Dallas finished second in the ASC East division while placing third in the West Regional in 2007. While there, Coach Carter earned his Master’s in Business Administration with a concentration in finance.

During the summers, he participates in the collegiate summer leagues. This summer he will be the head coach of the Florence Red Wolves in South Carolina. In 2007 and 2009, he assisted with the Edenton Steamers, also of the Coastal Plains League. In 2007, The Steamers won both the first and second half championship while having six players selected in the Major League draft and two others signing professional contracts. For the past three summers, Coach Carter has traveled abroad with USA Athletes International visiting Amsterdam, Aruba, and Australia, winning tournaments in both Amsterdam and Australia.

A native of Richardson, Coach Carter played college ball for Coach Tom Hager at Jamestown College (ND), where the team won the 2004 regional championship and a berth in the NAIA World Series. His senior year at Jamestown, he hit .397. Prior to his time at Jamestown, he spent two years at Southwestern University in Georgetown. He was a member of three conference championships during his four-year college career.

 

Troy Moock

Troy MoockCoach Moock begins his third season with the Buccaneers. His duties include working with the infielders and hitters while running the offense from the third base box. Coach Moock’s responsibilities also include recruiting, and organizing team fundraising and charity events. In 2009, he guided the Buccaneer hitters to a .322 average while belting 122 doubles, swiping 81 of 93 stolen bases, and hammering an astounding 115 homeruns, a Blinn record. 

Moock is a native of Baton Rouge, LA, where he played his prep ball at Woodlawn High School before moving on to play for and graduate from East Tennessee State University (2004). He began his coaching career at Blinn in 2005 before serving as the volunteer assistant at Northwestern State University during the 2006 and 2007 seasons. 

During the summers, Moock serves as the manager for the Vermont Mountaineers, a member of the New England Collegiate Baseball League. In his first year as manager, he guided the team to its fourth Western Division Championship in the past five seasons. Moock was an assistant with the Mountaineers during their back-to-back championship seasons in 2006 and 2007.  Moock’s hitters led the NECBL in batting average and hits this past season. 

Moock has been fortunate enough to have coached 24 players who have been selected in the MLB June Amateur Draft, the highest being the 17th overall pick in 2009.

As a member of the National Junior College Athletic Association, the Buccaneers compete in the Region XIV Athletic Conference and the Southwest Junior College Football Conference. In 1995 and 1996, Blinn College made history by becoming the first college to win back-to-back National Junior College Athletic Association football championships with 24 consecutive wins. Blinn added a third national title in 2006 following a perfect 12-0 season. The Buccaneers compete in football, men’s and women’s basketball, baseball, softball and volleyball. Complementing the athletic teams are the Blinn Cheerleaders, the Buccaneer Treasures Dance Team and the Blinn College Marching Band. All athletic teams are located on the Brenham campus.
