Mock wins Buccaneer MVP award
Blinn College sophomore Brateika Mock became the only two-time winner of the Don Wilhelm Award for being the Most Valuable Player on the women’s basketball team. The award is named for Blinn’s retired athletic director. Mock was also a two-time All-Region XIV and All-Conference selection.
The 5-8 guard from Navasota averaged 12.78 points per game scoring 767 total points in her two years at Blinn to place her seventh all-time in program history. Mock will continue her collegiate career at Lamar University, which won the Southland Conference Tournament and played in the national tournament this year.

Four Lady Bucs earn academic honors
Four Blinn College women’s basketball players were named to the Region XIV All-Academic Team. Apreia Booker of Texas City, Sarah Daily of College Station, Jasmine Ford of Irving, and Toia Wiltz of Lubbock achieved the recognition. To qualify, a player must have completed at least 36 credit hours and have a grade point average of 3.25 or higher.

Blinn’s Mock and Daily commit to universities
Two Blinn Lady Bucs will continue their basketball careers at the university level. Team MVP Brateika Mock signed to play at Lamar University. Sarah Daily, a 5-10 forward from College Station, committed to Norfolk State University in Virginia.
Mock was a two-time All-Region XIV and All-Conference selection. The 5-8 guard from Navasota averaged 12.78 points per game scoring 767 total points in her two years at Blinn to place her seventh all-time in program history.
Daily, an A&M Consolidated graduate, averaged 8.74 points per game and 4.74 rebounds as a freshman and was named Region XIV Honorable Mention in 2009. She scored 396 points in her career at Blinn including 21 points in a huge upset win over nationally-ranked Trinity Valley in Athens her freshman year.

Region XIV coaches honor Blinn’s Mock and Thomas
Region XIV women’s basketball coaches named Blinn College’s Brateika Mock, a sophomore guard from Navasota, to the All-Region team. Sophomore point guard Jaleesa Thomas of Huntsville earned honorable mention following the regional tournament in Tyler. The Buccaneers finished the season 17-14, 9-9 in conference play.
Gloria Brown, the 6-2 post who led the Trinity Valley’s Lady Cards to the Region XIV women’s championship, was named the conference’s Most Valuable Player. Angelina’s Tyeka Ranton was named Freshman of the Year, and Angelina coach Byron Coleman was selected Coach of the Year.

Blinn trades blue for pink in benefit game
Wednesday’s women’s basketball game between Blinn College and Kilgore College will benefit breast cancer research. The Pink Zone game begins at 5:30 p.m. at the Blinn P.E. Building with all proceeds and donations going to the Kay Yow/WBCA Cancer Fund. Tickets are $5 for adults, $3 for children. Blinn students and employees get in free with an ID.
The Women’s Basketball Coaches Association (WBCA) Pink Zone began in 2007 as a global project to raise breast cancer awareness on the court, across campuses, in communities and beyond. For more information on the Kay Yow/WBCA Cancer Fund, go to www.wbca.org/kayyowwbcacancerfund.asp. Yow was the North Carolina State head women’s basketball coach who died last month from breast cancer. The V Foundation was founded by North Carolina State head men’s basketball coach Jim Valvano shortly before his death from cancer in 1993.

Blinn Women Win Again
The Blinn College Women's Basketball team remained undefeated in 2010 with a 81-58 win over Lon Morris College. With the win the Bucs improve to 9-7 overall and 1-3 in Region XIV play. Brateicka Mock from Navasota High School led the Bucs with 23 points and Jaleesa Thomas from Huntsville added 14.

Blinn Women's Hoops wins opener
The Blinn College women's basketball team opened its season with a 85-63 win over Western Texas College. The Bucs were led by Brateicka Mock who scored 16 points and Janae Berry who contributed 14 points.

Blinn College freshman guard, LaChandra Johnson, performs a basketball drill at a clinic for Brenham's First Baptist Church School 5th and 6th graders. The clinic kicked off the Lion's 2009 season and was attended by the full Lady Bucs roster and coaching staff.

Blinn College sophomores (from left) Caressa Caldwell, Rekevia Brown and Terrah Austin have signed full scholarships with college baskeball programs for next season. Caldwell signed with Division II Henderson (Ark.) State, Brown signed with Division I Arkansas-Pine Bluff and Austin signed with Sam Houston State. In the last five year seasons all 27 of the Blinn Lady Bucs' sophomores have gotten scholarships to four-year universities, including 11 to Division I programs.

Mock averaged 13.3 points per game and was named to the all-Region 14 team, and Austin was the team's leading rebounder with 9.19 per game. Her 285 rebounds in 2008 ranks sixth in Blinn history and was the second most in the region.
