Lady Bucs collect $200 in Pink Zone
The Blinn Buccaneer women’s basketball team and dance team will donate $200 to the Kay Yow/WBCA Cancer Fund as a result of Blinn’s participation in the Women’s Basketball Coaches Association (WBCA) Pink Zone at this week’s final home game.
The Pink Zone game was sponsored by Blue Bell Creameries and Arby’s with t-shirts going to fans who donated. Former Lady Buc Jessica Martinek represented Blue Bell and Bill Barnes represented Arby’s in a three-point shooting contest at halftime of Wednesday’s game. Martinek won 9-5. Each was awarded a plaque for their company’s participation in the charity event.
The Pink Zone, formally known as “Think Pink,” was formed in 2007 and has unified more than 1,200 teams and organizations this year, reaching more than 830,000 fans and raising nearly one million dollars for breast cancer awareness and research.
For more information on the Kay Yow/WBCA Cancer Fund, go to www.wbca.org/kayyowwbcacancerfund.asp. Yow was the North Carolina State head women’s basketball coach who died last month from breast cancer. The V Foundation was founded by North Carolina State head men’s basketball coach Jim Valvano shortly before his death from cancer in 1993.
