Head Coach David Rehr
Going
into his fifth season as Blinn College head coach, David Rehr
brings with him new responsibilities as the college athletic
director.
He was named to the post on June 15, 2007 and becomes
the first head coach since Leroy Dreyer to serve in a dual
role as athletic
director and head coach. He had served as interim athletic
director from May to July 2005.
As head coach he will be striving to maintain a level of success
unsurpassed in any previous era in the program’s 11-year
history.
In four seasons he has a record of 146-18, with four trips
to the National Junior College Athletic Association championship
tournament and four top 10 finishes, including last year’s
school-record fifth place.
His teams were named NJCAA All Academic
teams in 2004, 2005 and 2006.
The 2006 national tournament appearance was actually Rehr’s
fifth consecutive trip there. In 2002, his team at Frank Phillips
College in Borger took him there for the first time.
When Frank Phillips lost its head coach, Rehr, who was the
college’s
trainer, took over the program. His first season the team struggled
with a 1 and 10 start, but ended it by winning 18 out of its
last 24 games. The next two seasons Rehr’s teams were 30-6
and 31-8 and made it to the National Junior College Athletic
Association championship tournament in 2002. The Lady Plainsmen
were named an NJCAA All Academic Team all three seasons under
Rehr.
After three seasons in the top job at Frank Phillips, he
accepted the new challenge in 2003 of taking an established
Blinn program
to the next level.
In his inaugural season at Blinn, his team
went 43-2; in 2004 the Bucs went 35-7; in 2005 they were 34-5;
and last year his
team was 34-4.
The move to Brenham also put him closer to family.
His mother and father, Susan and John, live in Houston. He
and the former
Felicia Rae Robles were married in December 2005.
The native of
Tampa, Fla., graduated from Satellite High School and then
attended Brevard Community College in Melbourne, Fla.,
where he was a student assistant with the volleyball program.
After graduating from Brevard he went on to earn his bachelor
of science degree in wellness and a master of arts degree in
physical education from the University of South Florida in
Tampa.
His
hobbies include sports and reading.
Assistant Coach Brian Froebel
Brian
Froebel becomes coach David Rehr’s full-time assistant
this season after three years as a second assistant.
His dedication to the continued success of Blinn Buccaneer volleyball
has led him to a position as one of the best young coaches in
the Texas volleyball community. Never satisfied with status quo,
he is constantly working to move the program forward.
He is the middles coach and works with the defense. His duties
also include opponent scouting, tape analysis, recruiting and
day-to-day operations.
A graduate of Columbus High School, Froebel
is a 1999 graduate of Blinn College and a 2002 graduate of
Sam Houston State University
with a bachelor of business administration degree in finance.

club volleyball team and was named to the Southern Interscholastic
Volleyball Association (SIVA) All Conference Team in 2002.
He was also the 2002 women’s club volleyball team head
coach.
Since leaving Sam Houston, he has been involved with
Texas Tri-County Juniors Volleyball, now known as TEXSTAR
Volleyball. He has served
as assistant director, camp director, tournament organizer
and the head coach.
