Blinn’s Schmidt, Roberto earn additional honors
Blinn College setter Kayla Schmidt and outside hitter Cinthya Roberto garnered two more awards after leading the Lady Bucs to their first national championship. The American Volleyball Coaches Association (AVCA) named Schmidt and Roberto to its Two-Year Colleges Women’s Volleyball All-America First Team.
Earlier in the week the two players were named NJCAA Division I First Team All Americans. The AVCA represents all divisions of the NJCAA as well as California and Pacific Northwest colleges. The Blinn volleyball program has placed a total of seven All-Americans on the AVCA list.
Schmidt, a 5’10” sophomore from Bellville, was third in the nationally in assists per game, averaging 11.696. Along a .375 hitting percentage, she averaged 1.519 digs per game.
Freshman Cinthya Roberto of Brasilia, Brazil, was eighth nationally in kills, averaging
4.241 per game. The six-footer ranked in the top five in aces, averaging 0.722 per game. Roberto held a .3684 hitting percentage with an average of 2.215 digs per game.
The Lady Bucs finished the 2008 season 33-2 with a victory over the University of Arkansas-Fort Smith to earn the national title. It was Blinn’s sixth consecutive trip to the national tournament.

Blinn lands two on All-American First Team
For their efforts in securing Blinn College’s first volleyball national championship, setter Kayla Schmidt and outside hitter Cinthya Roberto were named NJCAA Division I First Team All Americans. It is the first time two Blinn players have been selected to the First Team. The Blinn volleyball program has had nine All-Americans, eight of those during the six-year tenure of head coach and athletic director David Rehr. Schmidt and Roberto were also First Team All Region as well as All Tournament honorees at both the regional and national tournaments.

Rehr garners Coach of Year honor
The American Volleyball Coaches Association named Blinn College head coach and athletic director David Rehr as NJCAA Division I Coach of the Year. The Lady Bucs went 33-2 and won their first national title with a come-from-behind victory over the University of Arkansas-Fort Smith. The Lady Bucs have advanced to the national tournament in each of the six years Rehr has coached at Blinn.
“It is an honor to be included into this group of outstanding coaches,” Rehr said. “I give a lot of credit to my assistant coach Brian Froebel and the student athletes on our team.”
This is the second time Rehr has received the coaching honor. He was also Southwest Region Coach of the Year in 2006.

The Blinn Buccaneer Volleyball team defeated University of Arkansas at Fort Smith in five, 27-29, 19-25, 30-28, 25-19 and 15-10 to claim number one at the national tournament.

Volleyball wins first match in Nationals
The Blinn Buccaneer Volleyball team dropped Temple College in their first match of the National Tournament being held in Council Bluffs, Iowa. The Bucs opened with a 25-17 win followed by 26-24 and a strong 25-8 finish.

Blinn Volleyball Wins Region Title
The Blinn College Volleyball team won the 2008 Region XIV Volleyball Tournament with a 25-11,25-17,25-19 sweep of Tyler Junior College. The win marks the sixth consecutive Region XIV title for the Buccaneers. Cinthya Roberto and Kayla Schmidt made the All Tournament team and Elizaveta Senenkova was named Most Valuable Player. With the win the Bucs advance to the NJCAA National Tournament in Council Bluffs, Iowa on November 20-22.

Blinn Volleyball Wins Plays in the Finals
In the opening game of the Region XIV Volleyball tournament the Blinn College Volleyball team defeated Panola College in four games 25-16, 25-11, 23-25, 25-14. The win moves the Bucs to the finals tomorrow at 2pm versus either Navarro College or Tyler Junior College. The Bucs were led by Cinthya Roberto with 20 kills and Elizaveta Senenkova with 19 kills. Kayla Schmidt had 49 assists.

Blinn College Volleyball Escapes from Temple
The Blinn College Volleyball team escaped a tough match from Temple Junior College 25-19, 25-21, 20-25, 25-17. The match was the final regular season match for the Bucs before heading to the Region XIV tournament in Carthage, TX. The Bucs were led by Cinthya Roberto with 15 kills, 8 digs and 4 blocks. Jennifer Goodwin and Lakeshia Craft added 11 kills each and Kayla Schmidt added 46 assists. The Bucs finish the regular season 27-2 on the season and are the #1 seed in the Regional tournament. The match marks the final home game for six sophomores; Kara Stinson, Korrine Stinson, Kayla Schmidt, Laura Twedell and Lori Hunsucker. The Bucs are 62-6 in their two years.

Blinn Volleyball Finishes Conference Undefeated
The Blinn College Volleyball team defeated Tyler Junior College in the Region XIV finale for both teams 25-7, 25-16, 25-12. The win marks an defeated record for the Bucs in Region XIV play and gives them the #1 seed in next weekends Region XIV Tournament hosted at Panola College in Carthage, TX. In the match the Bucs (26-2, #4 in NJCAA) were led by Cinthya Roberto with 13 kills and 4 aces. On the night the Buccaneer Offense hit .485 and sophomore Kayla Schmidt dished out 34 assists. The Bucs also added 15 aces and nine blocks. The team plays its season finale at home on Monday at 6pm versus #18 ranked Temple College. The Bucs are going to attempt to "Black Out" the gym asking all Buc fans to wear black.

Blinn Volleyball holds at No. 4 in NJCAA poll
The Blinn College volleyball team (25-2) will head into its final conference match ranked No. 4 in the NJCAA poll, a position it has held for four weeks.
The Lady Bucs are 7-0 in Region XIV play after sweeping Panola College on Tuesday in Carthage. The Bucs return home to face conference foe Tyler Junior College on Thursday and Temple College on Monday before entering the regional tournament Nov. 7-8 with the opportunity to advance to the NJCAA National Tournament Nov. 20-22 in Council Bluffs, IA, for the sixth consecutive year.
Thursday’s game with Tyler is fan appreciation night with 50 cent hot dogs.

Blinn Volleyball Wins Wild Match on the Road
The Blinn College Volleyball team defeated Panola College in front of a rowdy crowd in Carthage, Texas. The Bucs (25-2 overall, 7-0 Region XIV) outlasted the Fillies 25-19, 25-18, 25-22. Cinthya Roberto led the Bucs in kills with 18 and Elizaveta Senenkova and Lakeshia Craft adding 13 and 12 respectivly. Defensively Lori Hunsucker led the Bucs in digs with 21. Kayla Schmidt led the team with 51 assists while the Bucs hit .477 on the night. The Bucs return home Thursday to face Tyler Junior College, it is the final Region XIV match for Blinn College.

The Blinn College Volleyball team defeated Region XIV foe Navarro College 25-16, 25-13, 25-10 in the second of three home matches for the Bucs. The Bucs defeated Coastal Bend on Monday and Paris Junior College comes to Blinn tomorrow. The Bucs, ranked #4 in the NJCAA are currently 23-2 overall and 5-0 in Region XIV play. Tomorrow's match against Paris is scheduled for 6pm.

Blinn Volleyball sweeps Paris
The Blinn College Volleyball team defeated Region XIV volleyball foe Paris Junior College in straight sets 25-11, 25-12, 25-15. The Bucs won the Region XIV Conference title with the win, they are currently 6-0 in Region play. The Bucs are on the road Tuesday versus Panola before they return home Thursday to face Tyler Junior College. The Bucs are currently ranked #4 in the latest NJCAA National Poll and are 24-2 on the season.

The #4 ranked Blinn College Volleyball team won its twenty second match of the season with a 25-12, 25-16, 25-11 sweep of Coastal Bend College. The Bucs (22-2) were led by Cinthya Roberto and Elizaveta Senenkova each with 14 kills. The Bucs host two more home matches this week, Wednesday vesus Navarro College and Thursday versus Paris Junior College. Both matches begin at 6pm.

The Blinn College Volleyball team defeated Tyler Junior College in straight sets 25-16, 25-16, 25-12 in Region XIV volleyball action. The Bucs are 21-2 overall and 4-0 in Region play. In the match the Bucs were led by Cinthya Roberto with 11 kills, 7 digs and 5 blocks. Sophomore Kayla Schmidt added 8 kills and 22 assists. The Bucs are off the remainder of the week and will face Coastal Bend College on Monday at home as a part of a three game home stand next week.

Blinn Volleyball Wins 20th Match
The Blinn College Volleyball team recorded it's 20th win of the season after a 25-7, 25-14, 25-18 sweep of Panola College. The win also places the Bucs atop the Region XIV standing at 3-0. The Bucs (20-2) were led by Jennifer Goodwin with 12 kills and 11 digs. Kara Stinson led the serving with 8 of the Buc's 15 aces. Kayla Schmidt totaled 39 assists on the night. The Bucs are on the road Monday for a rematch of 2007's Regional Final versus Tyler Junior College.

In the Sept. 30 NJCAA poll, the Blinn College volleyball team (17-2) stayed in the No. 5 position after winning its Region XIV opener against Navarro College 25-19, 25-12, 26-24.
Blinn will play North Central Texas in Gainesville at 6 p.m. on Saturday.
Other ranked Region XIV teams: No. 7 San Jacinto College-Central (12-2), No. 14 Lee College (10-4), and No. 18 Laredo Community College (14-0).

In the Sept. 24 NJCAA poll, the Blinn College volleyball team (15-2) moved back into the No. 5 position where it began the season. The Lady Bucs defeated Wharton County Junior College 25-18, 25-5, 25-10 at in Brenham on Monday.
Blinn will host Lee College tomorrow at 6 p.m.
Other ranked Region XIV teams: No. 8 San Jacinto College-Central (12-2), No. 12 Lee College (10-4), and No. 19 Laredo Community College (14-0).

Blinn Volleyball moves up to No. 6 in NJCAA poll
The Blinn College volleyball team (14-2) inched up one spot to No. 6 in the Sept. 17 NJCAA poll. The Lady Bucs came in second at the College of Southern Idaho Classic in Twin Falls, ID, losing only to No. 3 Southern Idaho. The Lady Bucs then traveled to Hillsboro to defeat Hill College 25-10, 25-13, 25-27, 24-26, 15-9.
Blinn will host Wharton County Junior College on Sept. 22.

Blinn Volleyball ranked 7th in NJCAA poll
Despite a near perfect record, the Blinn College volleyball team fell to seventh in the Sept. 10 NJCAA poll, the first ranking since the season started. The Lady Bucs began the season at No. 5. The team is now 10-1 and will travel to the College of Southern Idaho Classic in Twin Falls, ID, on Sept. 12-13. That tournament will include two other nationally-ranked teams. Southern Idaho is No. 3 and Salt Lake Community College is No. 4.

Blinn Volleyball picked #5 in national pre-season poll; Schmidt selected All-American
Blinn College will open the 2008 volleyball season ranked fifth in the nation with a Pre-season All-American at the setter position. Kayla Schmidt, a 5’10” sophomore from Bellville, was selected Third Team Pre-season All-American.
The Lady Bucs start the season on the road Aug. 22-23 at the San Jacinto tournament with their home opener in the Labor Day Classic Aug. 29-30. The team went 35-7 in 2007 and finished fifth at the NJCAA National Tournament, tying its best ever finish. Blinn has qualified for the national tournament the last five years winning 89.2 percent of its matches.

Blinn volleyball team earns academic award
The American Volleyball Coaches Association selected Blinn College for the AVCA Team Academic Award. The award honors collegiate and high school teams that maintained at least a 3.3 cumulative team grade point average.
Blinn was the only Texas team among the 15 two-year colleges to be honored for the 2007-8 academic year.
The AVCA’s mission is to develop and grow the sport of volleyball. Members include national and international coaches, collegiate, high school, club, youth and Olympic coaches, as well as club directors. Blinn volleyball among nation's top academic teams
The Blinn College volleyball team has once again been recognized by the National Junior College Athletic Association as one of the top academic teams for the fall 2007 season.
The award is the fourth straight year that the Lady Bucs have been named among the NJCAA Fall Academic Teams of the Year.
The NJCAA annually recognizes student-athletes and individuals who have distinguished themselves on a national level through performance, service, merit or achievement.
The minimum grade point average requirement for consideration was 3.0. Blinn’s team GPA was 3.32.
Blinn, coached by David Rehr, finished the 2007 season with an overall record of 35-4, finishing fifth at the NJCAA National Tournament.
