Blinn softball to open season a week later
The third-ranked Blinn Buccaneer softball team must wait another week to open the 2010 season. The Whitecap Invitation in Galveston scheduled for this weekend was canceled because of the weather. The Bucs’ season opener will be a doubleheader on Feb. 12 at Temple College. They will then play in the Midland College Spring Classic Feb. 19-20, the Odessa College Tournament Feb. 26-27, and the Region 14 Crossover in Longview on March 7-8. The home opener at Hohlt Park is on March 10 at 2 p.m. and 4 p.m. against Angelina College.
Blinn Softball ranked No. 3 in preseason NJCAA poll
The Blinn College softball team will open the 2010 season ranked third in the country. The NJCAA preseason poll released Friday placed the Buccaneers behind defending national champion Yavapai College (AZ) and Wallace State Community College–Hanceville (AL), which lost to Yavapai in the title game. The Bucs finished fourth in the 2009 NJCAA tournament with a record of 56-11. Blinn opens the 2010 season in Galveston at the Whitecap Invitational Feb. 5-6. The Bucs spend five weeks on the road before their first home game at Hohlt Park in Brenham on March 10 against Angelina College.

Jeter, Schwarz, Winkelman named Louisville Slugger/NFCA NJCAA All-Americans
Blinn College Buccaneer shortstop Caley Jeter and outfielder Hannah Schwarz were named All-Americans by the National Fastpitch Softball Coaches Association. Both made the 2009 Louisville Slugger/NFCA NJCAA Division I All-America First Team. Pitcher Carlee Winkelman (25-8) was named to the Third Team. The Lady Bucs finished fourth at the national tournament with a record of 56-11.
Jeter led the team with six triples and 80 runs scored as she hit .498 on the season. She also registered 13 doubles, 41 RBI and 27 stolen bases. Schwarz earned the Lady Bucs’ best batting average at .538 scoring 64 runs with a double, three triples, 26 RBI and 29 stolen bases.

Blinn Softball lands 5 on All-Region Team
The honors continue for the Blinn College softball team after a fourth place finish at the national tournament. In the Midwest region, Blinn (56-11) led the way with five players selected to the Louisville Slugger/NFCA NJCAA Division I All-Region team. The National Fastpitch Coaches Association named sophomore pitcher Carlee Winkelmann (Brenham), sophomore shortstop Caley Jeter (Huntsville), freshman outfielder Hannah Schwarz (Kerrville Tivy) to the First Team. Making the Second Team were freshman pitcher and first baseman Lindsey Brown (Spring) and sophomore outfielder Tiffany Galletti (Alvin).
