Former Blinn College offensive lineman Tony Burson, now at Midwestern State University, has been named to the National Football Foundation Hampshire Honor Society.
The society comprises college football players from all divisions of play who each maintained a 3.2 grade point average or better. A total of 439 players from 226 schools qualified for membership in the society’s second year, an increase of more than 25 percent from the inaugural class in 2007.
Qualifications for membership include being a starter or a significant substitute in one’s last year of eligibility at an accredited NCAA Football Bowl Subdivision, Football Championship Subdivision, Division II, Division III or an NAIA college or university; achieving the minimum 3.2 cumulative GPA throughout entire course of undergraduate study and meeting all NCAA- mandated progress towards degree requirements.
Burson, a graduate of Katy High School, played for the Buccaneers in 2004 and 2005.

Bucs named all conference
Six members of the Blinn College football team have been
named to the all-Southwest Junior College Football Conference.
Quarterback
Terrance Cain (6-1, 195, Houston North Shore), deep snapper
Zac Taylor (6-4, 215, Austin Westlake) and wide receiver
Justin Jordan (5-10, 181,
Plano) were named to the first-team offense, while defensive end Emmanuel
Stephens (6-3, 235, Houston Waltrip) and linebacker Sterling
Lewis (6-0, 231, Copperas Cove) were named all-defense.
E.J. LeBlanc (5-7, 170, Beaumont West Brook) was named
an all-conference
at both wide receiver and kick returner.
Cain led the conference with 2,185
passing yards on 178-of-290 passing. He threw 22 touchdowns
and 11 interceptions on the season.
Jordan caught 31 passes
for 402 yards and six touchdowns on the season, and LeBlanc
25 passes for 432 yards and
two touchdowns.
LeBlanc averaged 11.5 yards per punt
return with one touchdown.
Stephens had 31 tackles and
nine sacks on the season, while Lewis had 41 tackles
and seven sacks.
Blinn finished the season 7-3 with a 4-2
record in the SWJCFC.
Buccaneers eliminated
The Blinn Buccaneers were eliminated from the
conference playoff by a score of 28-9 to the Navarro College
in Corsicana.
This was their second loss to the Bulldogs in as many
weeks.
Bucs fall to Navarro
The Blinn College Buccaneer football team lost it's final
regular season game to conference foe Navarro College in
Corsicanna 42-18. The Buccaneers drop to 7-2 overall and
4-2 in conference play. The Buc's clinched a playoff
position last week.
Bucs defeat Cisco in homecoming action
On Blinn College's Homecoming, the Buccaneer Football
team defeated the Cisco College Wranglers 56-14. The Bucs
improve to 7-1 overall and 4-1 in SWJCF Conference play.
The win places the Bucs into second place in conference
play. The football team returns to action next Saturday
at Navarro College.

The Blinn College Football team improves
to 1-1 in SWCJC and 3-1 overall with a 43-0 win over
Tyler Junior
College.
The Bucs return to action on next Saturday October 6th
vs. Trinity Valley at 3pm.

Buccaneers featured in ESPN The Magazine
The Blinn Buccaneers, the defending National Junior College
Athletic Association football champions, are featured in
the 2007 college football preview of ESPN The Magazine.

Hampton Stevens spent Aug. 7 with the team in Brenham. As part of a
feature on the defending national champion college teams, Hampton visited
with the Bucs as they "crammed a week's worth of activity
into one massively hectic first day of camp in the Texas
sun."
The Bucs open their 2007 season at home against
Coffeyville (Kansas) Community College on Aug. 25 at
3 p.m.

Blinn picked to finish first by football conference media
The defending national champion Blinn College Buccaneers
are picked by the conference media to finish first in the
Southwest Junior College Football Conference this season.
Blinn, with 49 points, edged out Cisco Junior College
who received 46 points in the conference media poll. Both
teams received four first-place votes.
Navarro, Kilgore, Tyler, Trinity Valley and Northeastern
Oklahoma, respectively, rounded out the poll. Navarro received
one first-place vote.
Blinn, ranked third in the NJCAA pre-season poll, opens
its season at home on Aug. 25 against No. 8 ranked Coffeyville
(Kansas) Community College. The Bucs' conference opener
is at home against Kilgore on Sept. 22.

Blinn Buccaneers No. 3 in NJCAA pre-season poll
The defending national champion Blinn Buccaneer football
team is No 3. in the National Junior College Athletic Association
pre-season poll.
Pearl River Community College, the Bucs'
opponent in the Pilgrim's Pride Bowl last November, has
the top spot for the third year in a row.
Blinn capped
a perfect 12-0 in 2006 by defeating Pearl River 19-6
to earn the No. 1 ranking in the season-ending
poll.
The Bucs open the 2007 season against Coffeyville
Community College (Kansas), No. 8 in the pre-season,
on Aug. 25
in Brenham.

Blinn College (Texas) finished its 2006 football campaign with a 19-6 victory over previously second-ranked Pearl River Community College (Miss.) in the Pilgrims Pride Bowl Classic on Dec. 9. The Buccaneers closed out the season with a perfect 12-0 record and was awarded with the No. 1 ranking in the final NJCAA Football Poll of the 2006 season.
The Buccaneers of Blinn College were led this season by First-Team NJCAA All-American running back Bernard Scott, who led the NJCAA with 1,892 rushing yards and 27 touchdowns. He averaged 154.4 yards per game and rushed for 193 yards on 22 caries and a touchdown in their bowl victory over Pearl River.
Blinn also boasted the best defense in the nation this year. The Buc's gave up just 129 yards of offense a game. They were monsters against the run, allowing a mere 39 rushing yards a game from their opponents. Three Blinn defenders were named NJCAA All-Americans this season: Ryan Moutan (DB, First-Team), Walner Leandre (DB, Second-Team) and Alex Cook (DE, Second-Team).
