Record number of Blinn grads selected for dance and cheer squads across Texas
A record 12 men and women from Blinn College’s successful cheer and dance programs were selected to transfer to large universities or represent a professional sports team in 2011.
Blinn sophomore dancer Stephanie Farrer (Crosby High School) was selected to join the Houston Texans Cheerleaders. She was one of hundreds of dancers who auditioned for only 33 spots on the 2011 squad. Along with her cheerleading duties, Farrer will attend the University of Houston in the fall, working towards a career in dentistry. Farrer is the first Blinn dancer to make the Texans’ squad. Blinn has had four dancers/cheerleaders become Dallas Cowboys cheerleaders and one make it onto the Houston Rockets’ dance team.
Selected for the Sam Houston State University dance team were: Sarah Drews (Robert E. Lee High School, Baytown ISD), Shannon Heath (Dulles High School, Sugarland ISD), Danielle Moffett (Spring High School), Mary Lou Munguia (Robert E. Lee High School, Baytown ISD) and Hailey Wade (Klein Collins High School, Spring ISD)..
Stephen F. Austin State University selected Dylin Loder (Salina Central High School, Salina, Kan.) and Muindria White (Brenham High School).
Kylie Farrell (Tomball High School) and Tracy Rosas (Moody High School, Corpus Christi ISD) were chosen by Texas State University’s cheer squad.
Shari Pendergrast (Alvin High School) was selected for the dance team at The University of Texas at San Antonio.
Lizelle Lauron (Sachse High School, Garland ISD) made the University of Louisville’s Lady Bird dance team.
Blinn’s cheerleaders and Treasure dancers are involved with activities and spirit programs designed to encourage school spirit and pride, to foster leadership and to promote active, community participation.
This year, the college’s cheerleaders placed fifth and the dance team won fourth place honors at the 2011 National Cheerleaders Association/National Dance Association Collegiate Cheer and Dance Championship in Daytona Beach, Fla.
