April 16, 2008

The Blinn College Baseball team won it's eighth straight Region XIV game with a 15-5 win over Galveston College. Trey Johnson led the Bucs by pitching for the win as well as adding two of the eight home runs hit by the Bucs. The Bucs play at Galveston on Saturday games begining at 1pm.

April 12, 2008

Dating back to March 29th the Blinn Buccaneers Baseball team won the second game of a double header against San Jacinto College to move their Region XIV record to 4-14. Since that date the Bucs have swept two straight series including this weekend's series against Wharton County Junior College. In the first game against Wharton the Bucs won a 5-4 decision with James Brandhorst pitching the win. In game two the Bucs won 5-2 behind Trenton Irwin's pitching. The Bucs, on a current seven game Region XIV win streak, is currently 10-14  and in the fourth playoff spot for the Region XIV Baseball Tournament. The Bucs return to the field on Monday in non-conference action at Concordia University.

After sweeping Laredo College in a three game series last weekend, the Blinn Baseball Team continued its win streak with a 7-5 win at Wharton County Junior College. The Bucs return home Saturday for a double header against Wharton, the first games start at 1pm.

April 6 , 2008

In the final game of a three game series with Laredo College the Blinn College Baseball team completed the sweep with a 10-1 win. Paul Demny was the winning pitcher. The sweep ties the Bucs with Laredo for the fourth and final playoff spot in the Region XIV Baseball Tournament. The Bucs return to action on Wednesday at Wharton before hosting Wharton on Saturday.

April 5 , 2008

The Blinn College Baseball team took two games from Laredo Community College in a match up of Region XIV foes. In the first game Trenton Irwin pitched all seven innings in a 5-2 win. In the second game the Bucs came from down two runs to defeat Laredo 9-8 in the bottom of the 9th inning. The Bucs play the third and final game of the series tomorrow at 11am at Leroy Dreyer Field.

The Blinn College Baseball Team split a double header from San Jacinto College. In game one the Bucs fell 6-17 with Trey Johnson the pitcher of record. In game two the Bucs won 11-8 with Brian Smith pitching the win and Taylor Janak getting the save. The Bucs host Laredo College on Saturday and Sunday.

The Blinn College Baseball team defeated South Suburban College 15-4 in 7 innings on Tuesday. Brandon Finken was the winning pitcher and Zach Leonhardt and Mario Eramo both hit home runs on the day. The Bucs play at San Jacinto College tomorrow before returning home on Saturday in a double header versus San Jacinto.

The Blinn College Baseball team dropped both games of the double header against Alvin Community College by the scores of 4-11 and 4-14. The Bucs return to action on Tuesday 4pm at Leroy Dreyer Field.

The Blinn College Baseball team dropped a 1-9 game to Alvin Community College at Leroy Dreyer Field. The Bucs return to action March 20th with a double header begining at 1pm against Alvin.

The Blinn College Baseball team won two games today at Leroy Dreyer Field against Region XIV foe Galveston College. In game one the Bucs defeated the Whitecaps 4-3 in the bottom of the seventh inning on four straight singles.

Trey Johnson pitched the Bucs to the win. In the second game the Bucs dropped Galveston 6-1, Trenton Irwin pitched for the win while Mario Eramo added a homerun. The Bucs return to action Wednesday at Alvin followed by a home doubleheader at home on Thursday versus Alvin.

The Blinn College Baseball Team defeated Wharton County Junior College by the score of 13-12 Wednesday at Leroy Dreyer Field. Brandon Finken was the winning pitcher and Bradley Madison got the save. The Blinn Buccaneers Baseball Team split its games today at Leroy Dreyer Field against McLennan College. In the first game the Bucs won 6-3 with Brandon Finken getting the victory on the mound. Mario Eramo homered for the Bucs. In the second game McLennan dropped the Bucs 3-2. Paul Demny was the pitcher of record. The Bucs travel to Laredo for games on Saturday and Sunday.

The Blinn College Baseball Team got back to its winning ways defeating Concordia University in Austin. The Bucs (9-10) won both games of the doubleheader by the scores of 10-5 and 10-6. The Bucs return back to Brenham on Wednesday versus McLennan Community College, games starting at 3 pm.

The Blinn College Baseball team fell to Region IV foe San Jacinto College in a doubleheader in Houston. The Bucs fell 6-4 in the first game and 6-2 in the second game. The Buccaneers (7-10, 0-3) return to the field on Monday at Concordia University.

Bucs Fall Twice

The Blinn Buccaneer baseball team (7-7) dropped both of its games in the rain shortened Leroy Dreyer Classic. In the first game the Bucs fell 5-4 to Grayson College with all for its runs coming from homeruns, a 3-run homerun from Zach Leonhardt and a solo homerun by Layton Hiller. Paul Demny was the pitcher of record. In the second game the Bucs fell to Texarkana, 5-0. Brian Smith was the losing pitcher. The Bucs return to Leroy Dreyer Field on Wednesday against Conference foe San Jacinto College at 7pm.

In a doubleheader against Seminole State University (Okla.), the Buccaneer baseball team split with an opening game loss followed by a second game 12-3 rout. In the first game after going down 7-0 in the 4th inning the Bucs' bats came alive with a 5-run inning of its own but fell short in the end 7-5. James Brandhorst took the loss.

Zach LeonhardtIn the second game, Trey Johnson was the winning pitcher. Zach Leonhardt went 2 for 4 with two, two-run homeruns and 4 RBI's. Sophomore Layton Hiller went 3 for 3 with a homerun and 3 RBI's. The Bucs return to action with the Leroy Dreyer Classic begining at 1:00pm versus Grayson. The tournament schedule was changed because of the incoming weather.

Blinn baseball announces early signees

Two Brenham High School standouts are among the nine players who have already signed to play baseball at Blinn College in 2008-2009, head baseball coach Harvey McIntyre has announced.

"Because we have such a large class returning next year to play, we were able to bear down and be especially selective with the few kids who we needed to bring in for next season," McIntyre said. "Our focus was on players who could make an immediate impact in the middle of our lineup."

P.D. McIntyre, left-handed hitting catcher from Brenham,
Will McCaleb, third baseman from Bellaire,
Michael Guerra, shortstop from Alvin,
Chase Brown, center fielder from Arlington Martin,
Chris Hernandez, outfielder and pitcher from George Bush High School in Sugar Land,
Jonathan Delgado, right-handed pitcher from College Park High School in The Woodlands,
Covey Morrow, left-handed pitcher from Yoakum, and
Colton Eubanks, right-handed pitcher from Caldwell.

“We are extremely excited about the athletes we were able to sign so far this year,” McIntyre said. “It is very rare to sign every player that you were actively pursuing and we know how fortunate we were in our recruiting this fall.

"We cannot wait to have these young men on campus next fall, and we have great expectations for them all.”

Bucs Sweep Trinity

The Blinn College Buccaneer Baseball team defeated Trinity University in a doubleheader Tuesday at Leroy Dreyer Field. In the first game Blinn won by a score of 5-0. Trenton Irwin threw all 7 innings allowing 4 hits. Tyler Coppock homered, Trey Johnson went 2 for 3 with a double, and Layton Hiller also went 2 for 3. In game two the Bucs again defeated Trinity 15-1 in five innings. In all the Bucs collected 12 hits in the game. Brandon Finken was the winning pitcher. - Box Score

 

In the first game of the final day of the Don C. Wilhelm Classic, hosted by Blinn College, the Buccaneers dropped their first home game of the season to Angelina College by the score of 3-0. Brian Smith was the losing pitcher for the Bucs. In the tournament finale, after going up 1-0 from a solo homerun by Trey Johnson the Bucs gave up five runs over the next three innings and fall to Navarro 5-1. Taylor Janak was the losing pitcher. The Bucs (4-4) return to action Tuesday at home for a 3 p.m. double header against Trinity University.

On the first day of the Don C. Wilhelm Baseball Tournament, hosted by Blinn College, the Buccaneer Baseball team sweep its two opponents of the day. In the morning game the Bucs defeated Temple College by a score of 7-5. James Brandhorst (1-1) was the winning pitcher. In the nightcap game the Bucs were led by three-three run homeruns in a 14-4 win over Angelina College. Two of the homeruns were by Brenham High School graduate Matt Steele and the third by sophomore Layton Hiller. Steele had six RBI's on the night. The Bucs return to action on day two of the tournament at 11a.m. in a rematch with Angelina and again at 8 p.m. versus Navarro College. Navarro is 2-0 in the tournament.

The Blinn College Baseball team split a doubleheader today with McClennan Community College dropping the first game 5-4 and winning the second 8-5. The Bucs (2-2) return to action Friday February 8 at Leroy Dreyer Field.

Layton Hiller signs with The University of Louisville

Named to NJCAA Freshman All-Star Team after batting .351 with 14 doubles, Layton Hillier hit 11 home runs with 52 RBIs, trailing only current Louisville Cardinal Tyler Mickits in RBI while at Blinn.

A second team All-State selection for the Memorial HS Vipers in Victoria, Texas, setting school records for batting average (.470), home runs (6), and RBI (29). Layton was also a first-team selection on the All-District 28-5A team. In 2007 he helped the Blinn Buccaneers to the Regional Semifinals his first season.

Taylor Janak will join the pitching ranks at Texas State as a right-handed hurler. He leaves Blinn where he threw for head coach Harvey McIntyre. In 2007 Taylor threw 78 innings posting a 3.45 earned run average while holding batters to a .256 average.

Texas State head coach Ty Harrington describes Janak as a "very competitive pitcher who commands three pitches for strikes. He has an incredible competitive spirit about him and enjoys competing from the mound." Prior to attending Blinn, Janak worked under the tutelage of Eddie Gonzalez at Columbus High School.

In an overtime thriller the Blinn College Men's Basketball Team defeated Kilgore College by a score of 58-57. The Bucs return to action on Saturday at 4pm versus Navarro College.

The Blinn College Men's Basketball Team defeated the Houston Rough Riders by the score of 99-75. The contest marks the first game since January 2 that the Bucs have played out of the Region XIV Conference. The men return home on Saturday to face Navarro College at 4pm.

The Blinn Men's Basketball team dropped another heartbreaking loss, this time losing to Panola College by a score of 86-92. The Bucs were lead by Leslie Jackson with 19 points. The Bucs are away on Wednesday and return home next Saturday at 4pm versus Navarro College.

Jeff Jenkins, the head coach of the #11 ranked Blinn College Women's Basketball team is adding more wins to his historic season with a 84-63 defeat to Panola College. The Lady Bucs were led by Tilmila Martin with 17 points and Alexis Green and Ursula Hill with 14 each. The women play again at Kilgore College on Wednesday.

The Blinn College Women's Basketball team won it 10th game of the season improving to 10-1. The Lady Bucs defeated Jacksonville College 71-51.. The Lady Bucs also moved up in the NJCAA National rankings to #17 from its #22 ranking last week.


The 22nd ranked Blinn College Women's Basketball team defeated conference foe San Jacinto College 86-41 in Pasadena. The Lady Bucs move to 9-1 overall and 2-0 in conference play. The Bucs next play Dec. 5 at home against Jacksonville College starting at 5:30 p.m.

2006-2007 Highlights

March 19, 2007

For the second consecutive year, the Blinn women's basketball team made a post-season run to the regional tournament finals! In the quarter finals, Britney Minor hit a three pointer as time expired to propel the Lady Bucs to overtime where they eventually came out a 73-68 winner over Angelina. That gave them a date with defending champion Trinity Valley in the semi-finals. Blinn's defense was stifling throughout the contest and for only the second time in Coach Jeff Jenkins tenure at Blinn, the Lady Bucs defeated Trinity Valley 63-60 to advance to the championship game. In the finals, Blinn squared off against Tyler in a game that featured several runs but was close throughout. In the end, however, Blinn dropped a 63-61 decision as they missed a three-pointer at the buzzer that would have won the game and sent Blinn to the NJCAA National Tournament.

As a result of their efforts, several Blinn players were recognized. Britney Minor was named to the All-Region Team while Amira Ford, Edricka Thomas, Ursula Hill and Amaka Uzomah received Honorable Mention Honors. In addition, Edricka Thomas was named to the All-Tournament Team.

Blinn finishes the year 22-11 overall and 14-7 in conference play.

April 20 , 2008

Playing its third team in three days the Blinn College Softball Team sweeps San Jacinto College in a double header in Houston. In the first game the Lady Bucs won 6-5 in 9 innings with Elane Crabtree (16-8, 11-4) pitching for the win in relief. In the second gamethe Lady Bucs won 5-4. Carlee Winkelmann (10-1, 7-0) pitched for the win. Blinn College finished the regular season 37-12 overall and 22-6 in Region IV play. The Blinn College Softball team will host the Region XIV Softball Tournament at Hohlt Park on May 1-4th.

The Blinn College Softball team swept its second Region XIV opponent in Lamar State. In the first game Blinn won 11-0 in 5 innings. Carlee Winkelmann (9-1, 6-0) pitched a one hitter for the win. In the second game Blinn won 8-0. Elane Crabtree (15-8, 10-4) also pitched a one hitter for the win. Blinn is 35-12 overall and 20-6 in Region XIV play. The Lady Bucs host the Region XIV Softball Tournament on May 1-4th at Hohlt Park.

April 18 , 2008

The Blinn College Softball team faced a giant of a foe in 5th ranked Galveston College Whitecaps. The Lady Bucs were up to the challenge with a two game sweep at Hohlt Park. The first game finished in a 3-2 extra innings. Carlee Winkelmann (8-1, 5-0) pitched for the win. In the second game the Lady Bucs won 8-6 with Elane Crabtree (14-8, 9-4) pitching for the win.  Blinn College is 33-12 overall and 18-6 in Region XIV play.

April 12 , 2008

The Blinn College Softball (31-12, 16-6) team split a pair of Region XIV games versus Alvin Community College. In the first game the Lady Bucs fell 2-4 and in the second game they defeated Alvin 2-1. The Bucs return to action on Friday at 2 pm and 4 pm versus Galveston College.

The Blinn College Softball team lost two games to Texarkana College on the road, 0-2 and 0-3. Blinn is currently 30-10 overall and 15-5 in Region XIV play.

The Blinn College Softball team split a pair of games from Bossier Parish Community College at Bossier City, LA. Blinn dropped game one 2-3, with Elane Crabtree (13-6, 8-2) pitching for the desicion. In the second game the Lady Bucs dropped Bossier Parish  4-0. Carlee Winkelmann (6-1, 3-0) pitched the Lady Bucs to the win. Blinn is currently 30-9 overall and15-3 in Region XIV play. The Blinn College Softball team (29-8 , 14-2) swept another Region XIV foe in Lon Morris College this weekend. In the first game the Lady Bucs came back from a 0-2 deficit and score two runs in the bottom of the 7th inning.
Casey Ryan hit a 2 run double in the bottom of the 10th inning to win 4-2.

Elena Crabtree pitched the final 2 innings for the win and Carlee Winkelmann pitched the first 8 innings. In the second game Elane Crabtree (13-5, 8-1)pitched another 6 scoreless innings and the Lady Bucs won 9-0 in 6 innings. The Lady Bucs hit the road this weekend and will return home on April 18th.

The Blinn College Softball team won both games of a double header versus Navarro College. In the first game the Lady Bucs won 6-0, with Elane Crabtree pitching the win. In the second game Britany Benedict pitched the Lady Bucs to a 3-1 win. The Blinn Softball team plays again tomorrow at noon versus Lon Morris College.

In a match up of Region XIV leaders the Blinn College Softball, ranked #11 in the NJCAA, team split a pair of games with Galveston College, ranked #8.

In the first game Galveston defeated the Lady Bucs 0-8, Britney Benedict (6-1, 2-1) was the losing pitcher. In the second game Blinn dropped the Whitecaps 4-2 with Elena Crabtree being the winning pitcher (10-5, 5-1).

Blinn College is currently 25-8 overall and10-2 in Region XIV play. The Lady Bucs return home Saturday at 1pm for a double header versus Navarro College.

Elane Crabtree (9-5, 4-1) was the pitcher of record. In the second game the Lady Bucs dropped San Jacinto 6-3 with Brittany Benedict (6-0, 2-0) getting the win. The Blinn College Softball Team has moved the doubleheader scheduled against San Jacinto College from today, March 19, 2008 to tomorrow March 20, 2008. The move was to avoid any possible rain and to help prepare the field for play. The Lady Bucs are currently 21-6 on the season and  8-0 in Region XIV play. All Blinn College Softball home games are played at Hohlt Park.

March 16, 2008

The Blinn College Softball team swept its second conference foe of the weekend defeating Paris Junior College in a double header at Hohlt Park. In the first game the Lady Bucs defeated Paris 3-1, Britney Benedict (5-0; 2-0) was the winning pitcher while Kelly Gaskins went 1 for 3 with 2 RBI's.

In the second game Blinn overcame a 3-1 deficit in the bottom of the 7th inning to win 4-3. Elena Crabtre (9-4; 4-0) was the winning pitcher while Caysea Ryan had a pinch hit double to start the botom of 7th. Kristin Brown went 2 for 3 with the game tying RBI and finally Roxanne Rodriguez hit the game winning run. Blinn scored 3 runs in the bottom of the 7th all with 1 out to win the game.

The Lady Bucs (21-6, 8-0)  return to action on Wednesday at Hohlt Park versus San Jacinto College.

The Blinn College Softball team drops  Northeast Texas Community College in a conference doubleheader at Hohlt Park. In the first game the Lady Bucs won by a score of 3-1. Elena Crabtree (8-4, 3-0) was the winning pitcher with 9 stikeouts. In the second game the Lady Bucs won 9-1 in six innings, seven runs in the first two innings. Carlee Winkleman (4-1, 2-0) was the winning pitcher with 6 strikeouts and Kelly Gaskins was 3 for 4 scring three runs.

The Blinn College Softball (19-6,6-0) team plays again tomorrow at 1:00pm versus Paris Junior College.

March 6, 2008

The Blinn College Softball Lady Bucs improved their record to 17-6 as they  finished second in their bracket at the National Fastpitch Coaches Association Junior College Leadoff Classic March 6-9 in Panama City Beach, Florida. The Lady Bucs lost their first game in the tournament to seventh-ranked Central Alabama 1-3 with Elena Crabtree (7-2) as the pitcher of record. In the second game, they bounced back to defeat Wenatchee 8-6 with Britney Benedict (3-0) on the mound.

On the second day of the tournament, Blinn fell 2-3 to Miami-Dade and then beat Florida Community College 6-5, again with Crabtree and Benedict as the losing and winning pitchers.

In the final round of the tournament, Blinn beat Young Harris College 1-0 with Lisa Klein (3-1) on the mound to advance to the Silver Bracket championship game where the Lady Bucs lost to Chattanooga State 1-3 with Crabtree as the pitcher of record.

March 2, 2008

The Lady Bucs picked up wins number ten and eleven with a sweep over Lamar State Port Arthur in a Region XIV double header. In the first game Elena Crabtree (7-1) pitched the Ladt Bucs to a 9-1 five inning win. In the second game Carlee Winkelmann (3-1) pitched the Lady Bucs to a 10-2 five inning win. The Blinn College Softball team is currently 14-3 overall and 6-0 in Region XIV play.

March 1, 2008

The Blinn College Softball team defeated Alvin Community College in the Region XIV opener for both teams. In the two game home stand the Lady Bucs defeated Alvin in the first game 4-0 behind the pitching of Elena Crabtree (6-1). Crabtree also contributed on offense going 1 for 2 with an RBI. In the second game, Britney Benedict (2-0) pitched the Lady Bucs to a 4-2 win. On the day Tiffany Galletti was 3 for 6 with 3 RBI's and 2 stolen bases and Ciara Tullos was 4 for 7 with 2 stolen bases. Blinn College is now 12-3 on the season and 2-0 Region XIV play. They travel to Panama City Beach, Fla. for the NFCA Leadoff Classic on Friday.

The Blinn College Softball Team swept a doubleheader from Hill College in Hillsboro in their last game before Region XIV play begins. In the first game Blinn defeated Hill College 6-2. Carlee Winkelmann (2-1) was the winning pitcher. In the second game the Lady Bucs dropped Hill College 9-0 in 5 innings. Elena Crabtree (5-1) was the winning pitcher. The Lady Bucs are 10-3 overall and return to action at home on Saturday versus Alvin College begining at noon.

As a part of the Blinn College Invitational, that was delayed due to weather, the Blinn Softball Team showed no signs of rust in the layoff downing Temple College in two games. In the first game Blinn defeated Temple 5-4. Caitlin Boyle had 2 RBIs and Alison Hinton had sacrifice fly RBI to lead the offense. Britney Benedict pitched the Lady Bucs to the win.

Blinn took the second game 2-1 behind the pitching of Elena Crabtree. Missy Siegel and Tiffany Galletti shared the two RBI's for the game. The Lady Bucs are currently 8-3 on the season and travel to Hill College on Saturday.

Lady Bucs win two in home opener

The Blinn College Softball Team, in its home opener, faced former assistant coach and current head coach of the Iowa Western Community College Reivers Lana Ross. In game one the Lady Bucs won 5-3, with Caley Jeter getting two doubles in four trips to the plate and Ciara Tullis with a triple and an RBI. Lisa Klein was the winning pitcher with five strikeouts.

In the second game of the night and the Lady Bucs down 3-1 going into the 7th and final inning, Blinn scored two to put the game into extra innings. With one out in the bottom if the 8th and a runner on third Caysea Ryan hit a game winning sacrifice fly to score Ciara Tullos to win the game 4-3.

The Blinn College Softball Invitational begins tomorrow with Blinn College playing at 4:30 and 7:00pm.

Feb. 8-9, 2008

In the final day of the Galveston College Softball Tournament, the Blinn College Softball Team (4-3) finished the day with a split of their two games. In game one the Lady Bucs fell to McLennan College 5-3, with freshman Carlee Winkelmann (1-1) getting the loss. In the tournament finale the Lady Bucs defeated Temple College 11-0 in five innings with Elena Crabtree (2-1) pitching for the win. The Buccaneer Softball team went a combined 3-2 in the round robin tournament. Blinn College Softball returns to the field on February 15-17, as a part of the Blinn College Invitation hosted at Hohlt Park.

On day one of the Galveston College Softball Tournament the Blinn College Softball Team won two of three games. In the first game Blinn defeated Cisco College by the score of 4-1, Carlee Winkelmann (1-0) was the winning pitcher. In game two Blinn College lost to Seminole State 4-2, Lisa Klein (1-1) was losing pitcher. In the final game of the night Blinn College defeated the University of Houston-Victoria 5-4, Elena Crabtree winning pitcher (1-1). The Lady Bucs are currently 3-2 in the second weekend of the season, they play tomorrow in the final day of the tournament.

Softball Opens Season with Doubleheader

The Blinn College Softball team, in its season opening series of 2008, split with McClennan Community College. The Bucs dropped the first game 6-5 but picked up their first win, 5-1, in game two. The Lady Bucs return to action Friday, February 8 in the Galveston College Tournament.

Volleyball

Blinn College Volleyball improves to 27-3 with a 30-17, 30-18, 30-21 win over Wharton Junior College. Blinn returns to action again on Thursday at Navarro College for the final conference match up of the season.


The Blinn College volleyball team swept conference foe Paris Junior College on Thursday with scores of 30-24, 30-20, and 30-21. The Bucs improve to 26-3 and 5-2 in conference play. They continue play on Monday at Wharton County Junior College. The game time has been changed to 6 p.m.


Playing in its sixth match in five days the Blinn volleyball team on Monday dropped its second consecutive Region XIV. With the loss to Panola College the Bucs move to 25-3 on the season and 4-2 in confernce play. Panola defeated Blinn 29-31, 30-20, 26-30, 23-30. The Bucs return to the court at home Thursday at 6 p.m. against Paris Junior College.


The Buccaneer volleyball team got back to its winning ways with two wins Saturday at the Texas Tornados Tournament in Houston. The afternoon match pitted Blinn against Galveston College with the Bucs winning in three games: 30-21, 30-18, 30-25. In the evening match, the Bucs defeated the #12 San Jacinto College Ravens 30-25, 30-28, 32-30. The Bucs improve their record to 25-2 and return to action Monday against conference foe Panola College in Carthage.


After losing its only match of the season Thursday to Tyler, the Blinn College volleyball team bounced back to defeat Lee College in three games (30-24, 30-21, 30-12) at the Texas Tornados Tournament in Houston. The Bucs play again Friday night against #5 University of Arkansas Fort Smith. The tournament lasts through Saturday.


After an impressive 22-0 start to the 2007 season the Blinn Buccaneer Volleyball Team was defeated on Thursday by Tyler Junior College in five games 30-23, 28-30, 30-14, 25-30, 9-15. The loss moves Blinn into a tie for first place in the Region XIV standings (4-1). The Buccaneers return to action Friday at 10 a.m. against Lee College at the Texas Tornados Tournament in Houston.

Bucs sweep Navarro

In a three game sweep, the Blinn College Buccaneer volleyball team improved its record to 22-0 on Monday with a 30-25, 30-27, 30-14 win over Navarro College. After the first round of conference play, the Bucs are 4-0. Their next game is Thursday at home against #11 Tyler Junior College. Blinn is ranked third in the current NJCAA poll. The next poll will be released on Wednesday.

In a three game sweep, the Blinn College Buccaneer volleyball team improved its record to 22-0 on Monday with a 30-25, 30-27, 30-14 win over Navarro College. After the first round of conference play, the Bucs are 4-0. Their next game is Thursday at home against #11 Tyler Junior College. Blinn is ranked third in the current NJCAA poll. The Blinn College volleyball team improved its overall record to 21-0 in a match with Laredo on Friday that started slowly for the Buccaneers. The scores of 30-26, 30-16, 30-10 show how the Bucs picked up the pace through the match. The Bucs return to action against conference foe Navarro College on Monday at 6 p.m. at home. The Buccaneers have beaten Navarro College in each of the last four Region XIV Tournament Championships. -30-

The Blinn College Volleyball team improved its record to 19-0 with a 30-20, 30-17, 30-26 win on the Lady Bucs’ home court over Region XIV Conference foe Panola College. The win moves Blinn to 2-0 in conference play. Sabrina Daniel led the team with 14 kills and 15 digs. Syndney Milburn also had 15 digs. And Hayley Ball registered five aces. The Buccaneers return to action Monday at Paris Junior College. -30-

TYLER - The Blinn Lady Bucs defeated the Tyler Junior College Apaches in three sets by scores of 30-27, 30-27 and 30-27. The Lady Bucs rallied from a six-point deficit in the third set to seal the match against the Apaches and remain undefeated on the season. Hayley Ball and Sabrina Daniel led the Bucs with 10 kills each. With the win, Blinn goes to 18-0. The Bucs next action will be at home against Panola at 7 p.m. on Sept. 27.

Bucs move up

In the NJCAA National Volleyball Poll the Blinn College Buccaneers moved up two spots into the #3 position, with wins over #20 Lake Land (Illinois), #3 University of Arkansas-Fort Smith, ORV Jefferson College and #8 Missouri University-West Plains. The Buccaneers are led by Sabrina Daniel (3.4 kills per game), Lina Vangeas (1.7 blocks per game), Caroline Witte (11.3 assists per game), Sydney Milburn (3.7 digs per game) and Hayley Ball (1.3 aces per game). The Buccaneers are currently 17-0 on the season. This is the highest ranking in Blinn College’s Volleyball history in 2003 and 2006 the Buccaneers were ranked #4 in the Nation.


Sept. 19, 2007

The Blinn College volleyball team continued its perfect season on Tuesday with a sweep of Alvin Community College 30-20, 30-25, 30-22. The win is the 17 of the season for the Buccaneers. The win also places Coach David Rehr as the all-time winningest coach in Blinn College history (163-18). The Bucs were lead by the middle blocker tandem of Lina Vanegas and Stefanie Robbins each with 11 kills. Vanegas also added seven blocks. Caroline Witte led the team in assists with 24 and Sydney Milburn led in digs with 11. The match originally scheduled for Friday has been postponed due to the death of a Temple College family member.

Blinn College Volleyball extends its winning streak to 16 with a 32-30, 30-18, 30-17 win over eighth-ranked and tournament host Missouri State University-West Plains on Saturday. The 16-0 Buccaneers went 4-0 on the weekend including victories over #7 University of Arkansas-Fort Smith and #20 Lake Land (IL) and previously ranked Jefferson College (MO). The Buccaneers return to action on Tuesday at Alvin Community College followed by Temple College on Friday. The win marks the first victory over Missouri State University-West Plains in eight tries for the Blinn volleyball program.

The Blinn College volleyball team improves its overall record to 12-0 with a 30-15, 30-16, 30-25 win over Coastal Bend College on Saturday in Beeville. Lori Hunsucker led the match with 12 kills and 15 digs. Stefanie Robbins registered eight kills and three aces, and Sydney Milburn led in digs with 15. The Bucs return to action on the road this weekend in West Plains, MO. The Bucs are scheduled to play four preseason ranked teams in the Missouri State University-West Plains tournament.

The Blinn College volleyball team improved its overall record to 11-0 with a sweep of Lee College 30-15, 30-20, 30-25. Lina Vanegas led the Lady Buccaneers with 13 kills in the Baytown match. Hayley Ball and Sabrina Daniel each logged seven kills. The assist leaders were Caroline Witte with 18 and freshman Kayla Schmidt with 14. Ball led with six aces and Courtney McDonald had four aces and led in digs with nine. Vanegas also logged eight blocks.

The Lady Bucs next take on Coastal Bend College on Saturday in Beeville. Then they participate in the Missouri State University-West Plains tournament Sept. 14-15. Their next home match is Sept. 27 against Panola College.

The Blinn College volleyball team defeated Wharton County Junior College tonight in Brenham by the scores of 30-4, 30-11, 30-14. The win improves the overall record to 10-0.

The Buccaneers return to the court on Thursday at Lee College with start time set for 7p.m.

The Blinn College volleyball team has been recognized by the NJCAA as one of its 2006-2007 Fall Academic Teams-of-the-Year.

Blinn was honored for their academic excellence with an overall team GPA of 3.26. The minimum requirement for consideration was a 3.00. Blinn made its fourth consecutive trip to the NJCAA National Tournament last fall and finished in a school-record 5th place.

Blinn finish fifth at NJCAA National Volleyball Tournament

Nov 22, 2006- The Blinn volleyball team ended the year with a fifth place finish at the NJCAA National Volleyball Tournament. That marks the highest Blinn has ever finished surpassing the sixth place finish achieved on two separate occasions. But for just the third time this season, and the second time against Frank Phillips, the team was forced to a five-game match in order to do so. The Bucs won the match 3-2 (23-30; 30-19; 28-30; 30-17; 15-12) and end the year with a record of 34-4.

Buccaneers featured in ESPN The Magazine

The Blinn Buccaneers, the defending National Junior College Athletic Association football champions, are featured in the 2007 college football preview of ESPN The Magazine.

Reporter Hampton Stevens spent Aug. 7 with the team in Brenham.

As part of a feature on the defending national champion college teams, Hampton visited with the Bucs as they "crammed a week's worth of activity into one massively hectic first day of camp in the Texas sun."

The Bucs open their 2007 season at home against Coffeyville (Kansas) Community College on Aug. 25 at 3 p.m.

Blinn picked to finish first by football conference media

The defending national champion Blinn College Buccaneers are picked by the conference media to finish first in the Southwest Junior College Football Conference this season.

Blinn, with 49 points, edged out Cisco Junior College who received 46 points in the conference media poll. Both teams received four first-place votes.

Navarro, Kilgore, Tyler, Trinity Valley and Northeastern Oklahoma, respectively, rounded out the poll. Navarro received one first-place vote.

Blinn, ranked third in the NJCAA pre-season poll, opens its season at home on Aug. 25 against No. 8 ranked Coffeyville (Kansas) Community College. The Bucs' conference opener is at home against Kilgore on Sept. 22.

Blinn Buccaneers No. 3 in NJCAA pre-season poll

The defending national champion Blinn Buccaneer football team is No 3. in the National Junior College Athletic Association pre-season poll.

Pearl River Community College, the Bucs' opponent in the Pilgrim's Pride Bowl last November, has the top spot for the third year in a row.

Blinn capped a perfect 12-0 in 2006 by defeating Pearl River 19-6 to earn the No. 1 ranking in the season-ending poll.

The Bucs open the 2007 season against Coffeyville Community College (Kansas), No. 8 in the pre-seaon, on Aug. 25 in Brenham.
