Prior to joining Blinn College, Dr. Metcalf has taught a wide variety of courses at Abilene Christian University, Texas A&M University, and the University of Arkansas at Little Rock, which include Public Speaking, Interpersonal Communication, Small Group Communication, Speech Practicum, Advanced Public Speaking, Speech Communication, Gender Communication, Conflict Management, and Conflict Analysis and Intervention.

In the classroom, Dr. Metcalf enjoys an open exchange of ideas and encourages to share their experiences in relation to the course material. As much as possible, she encourages her students to learn through doing by designing experiential learning exercises and service learning components.
