Dr. Marcelo Bussiki is the Conductor of the Brazos Valley Symphony. He has an impressive musical background, serving as the Music Director and Conductor of Symphony North of Houston, 1995-96 Season Conductor for the Houston Civic Symphony, and Conductor of Santa Ursula University Chamber and Symphonic Choirs in Rio de Janeiro.
Dr. Bussiki's passion for music began at an early age. At 14, he moved from his home in Cuiaba, Brazil to study at the Brazilian Conservatory of Music in Rio de Janiero. He continued his conducting studies under Maestro Roberto Duarte at the Rio de Janiero Federal University and upon graduation was named Music Director of the orchestra of the Mato Grosso Federal University.
For his pioneer work in music cultural expansion, Bussiki was awarded the knighthood of the "Ordem do Merito de Mato Grosso." He received the title of Oficial, the highest honor that the executive power can bestow upon an artist in Brazil. Upon his arrival in Houston, he was awarded the Schlisser Conducting Fellowship.
Besides from teaching at Blinn, Bussiki is also a lecture professor at Texas A&M University. Dr. Bussiki teaches Music Appreciation - Musi 1306
